Im glad to see a change to the way updates work. I was saying a few months ago both here and on the NCG forums doing massive far apart updates, generally make no sense. Many companies including CCP are moving to smaller more frequent updates Much like NCG, they'd tweak handling, break the game, but not change it for months until the next big update, get it wrong again. (just an example) Making a HUGE update called the Race update was neat, but waiting for everything to be finished, even though somethings are already done, and have nothing to do with the race update, seems strange. Bench marking tools, glowing gauges ect have nothing to do with racing persay....... In short of a long rant, you guys are awesome Im ecstatic about this new update. Mostly for tire updates and tipping the pigeon around corners. I hope things go smoothly while release such a large update.
It ISNT called 'race update' for a reason...its just a name that they gave it...doesn't mean that everything will be nascar and crap you know?....yea sure the gauges doesn't have everything to do with racing but it makes the game a whole ton better than it already is..."its the small things that count" EDIT: oh and yea the devs are the best...HI DEVSSSSSS
Having updates this far apart wasn't our intention but so much of what is in the race update requires other features from the update to work properly. For example even the updates to Dry Rock Island require changes made to the engine or the roads will flicker like mad, those changes cannot be delivered without breaking other parts of the game. That's why it's all one update. There is more info here: http://www.beamng.com/entries/79-The-Pre-Race-Update-(in-some-weeks)
What people fail to understand is that this update is so going to change many things which future updates rely on. Thus, it'll take some time. There is just no other way to do this, and it's a pre-alpha/alpha after all. After the race update, I'm pretty sure things will come down to a relatively stable release schedule where the devs tweak and add things, small steps at a time.
actually, IT IS, called the race update for a reason, there adding a race checkpoint system, otherwise the name race update would make 0 sense whatsoever
you know what I mean right...ok its the race update...but not everything has to do with racing you know ...they are adding a dang semi for peets sake lol EDIT: oh and 200th post!
Where do you think I got all my info? That's where I read about everything Ive mentioned, or I wouldn't be mentioning it, and what this entire thread is about. Its that particular post we've all read over and over, multiple times, in excitement But Im not talking engine changes in that particular sentence you quoted. Pigeon and glowing gauges are not game breaking engine changes. The Pigeon is a great car that just so happened to be made by a dev, and glowing gauges are gauges, that glow.... Generally all the vehicle updates that are non-engine changing, and actually don't effect me. I tweak all of my cars through the jbeam files by hand myself. So adding a 5 speed to a van (My covet has a 7 speed "sequential" in it atm), or that different torque curve, or this HP gain, colours take about 30 seconds to change. Whereas things like the awesome roll cage, new fenders, steel wheels ect take more, but are still under the vehicle mods family which, of these, can and have been released by community members. Again, not game breaking. Which is in fact my point. Those don't need to wait for really any update, never-mind a big one. Which is why "Im glad to see" "A change in the way updates work" -Quoted from title and first sentence of the topic Things like terrain issues, lighting bugs, memory leaks, complete UI overhaul, tire physics tweaking, physics increases, rendering are game breaking, and is completely understandable, and Im more then glad to wait as long as I need to, and help out if I can.
Actually, they didnt release any of that stuff you are talking about, because the physics optimizations basically broke every jbeam. They mentioned having to do huge amounts of work to get them to work with the physics, and they cant develop them for the old version and new version parallel that would make 0 sense. " Whereas things like the awesome roll cage, new fenders, steel wheels ect take more, but are still under the vehicle mods family which, of these, can and have been released by community members. " Those all use jbeams btw since u dont seem to know what your talking about at all. Just bitching.
Where did I say it was released? The Pre-Race update is coming out in the next few weeks, with the Race update coming later. Clearly stated. I actually literally don't even see what you're talking about. I think you're misunderstanding the physics optimizations. They're not changing Jbeams in anyway when the updates come out. They're just changing physics and other things period. Meaning it will have an effect on everything. Including the vehicles you already have installed Lets use the Roll-Cage as an example. Its made of the same kind of Jbeams that every mod you see on the forums and all the other vehicles in the game is. They didn't do huge amounts of work to get the Jbeams to work with physics, they did a huge amount of work to get the new physics to work with Jbeams. (well not Jbeams, just the game itself). I can't imagine the nightmare it would be trying to get things running Jesus all of this because I said Im glad to see that they are moving to a more frequent updating structure.
actually, the blog post clearly states the the new physics WILL break your mods (and that they had to make a lot of changes to the actual jbeams of all the official cars to get them to work without it going crazy)
*sigh* anyways, clearly my skills at conveying ideas through words in the engine language is rather terrible. As the point of the topic is missed, and every time I post, people are getting hung up on silly little details in which we all know the answer too
Auto correct ffs English. But yes, little details. Nothing to do with the original idea, just nit-picking to nit-pick Anyways this has gotten seriously off-topic
