The filters for steering in the controls settings is a bit weird. I was wanting a better assist system. The new system can:
-Automatically adjust steering to prevent understeer.
-Can countersteer to counteract oversteer or assist with drifting.
-Can use ← and → keys (or A and D) to adjust the angle of countersteer.

I was thinking maybe a system similar to that used in CarX Drift Racing Online, it could make keyboard drifting much easier and could also help with driving the Bolide, SBR4, and other powerful FR/MR/RR cars.

This is a driving sim game, why would the team implement such an unrealistic feature? If you're so set on drifting, set up mouse steer and use that.

Yes, while it is very much a simulator, they still try to make the game easier to play while still retaining the simulation aspect.

I dont think this is necessary its used on phone drifting games because the controls there are much more limited, even compared to a keyboard. I think that the ideal thing would be to reduce the neutral return rate of the steering wheel to centre to real levels, but have it move faster if you press the opposite keyboard of that direction.

This isn't a Unity drift game, this is a revolutionary vehicle simulator.
In what way are those two comparable.

lemme be a bit of the devil’s advocate, if the feature was added, it should be able to be disabled

True. We already have steering assist in BeamNG.drive. It's in Settings>Controls>Filters, and you have Key (Grip) and Key (Drift), along with controller versions.
This idea of mine is basically just to revamp this system. They way it works now is that you adjust it so that the wheel only turns so far once you get to a certain speed. That's all it really does, and I mean it works don't get me wrong but it's a little primitive. I'm basically asking for a revamp, like a more "dynamic" sort of assist system. Like I said above, there can be one for that auto-countersteers for keyboard/controller newbies, along with adjusting for oversteer/understeer. That CarX game was only just an example, to just sort of show what it can be capable of if done correctly.
    Well of course. :p

Where's Gabester when you need him?

Most of the time I drift in this game and use contoller. I absolutely love the physics core, handling is very realistic and drifting with a wheel is such a pleasure. But the problem is that drift spec cars are really hard to handle using sticks. When i try to hold the drift and angle they start to twitch and roll. This kind of behavior annoys so much. So the only solution for me with a controller is using cars with crappy tires and old suspension design to kind of smooth out the roughness of the stick input when you release it. I want this drift assist and can't see any reason it spoils the game. It can be disabled by default for example.
