They also add more batteries in each model, and by dealership custom order it's often possible to mix and match to a limited extent getting the larger battery of the dual motor on a single motor car etc, with often similar range depending on EPA or WLPT testing --- Post updated --- Forget which way around it is. But one of the tests does seem to favour the slight efficiency *changes* that the dual motor setup brings though the difference is one of like 5 miles on a full charge. The triple motor model does simply have a bigger battery pack fitted, hence the price premium across the models really, the motors alone don't account for such a price hike. Model 3 RWD models come with a 50kWh pack and AWD models a 75kWh pack. --- Post updated --- Hmm. I am mistaken, the back doesn't slide into the roof, you can see in the video it sorta breaks up and slides down the back window
Whelp. I wasn't expecting the most blockiest and unrecognizable car I've seen Tesla put out for the Cybertruck.... but, here we are.
Dude I dig it! It's weird as hell but I absolutely love it. It'd probably be super fun to drive as well. It is also, apparently, not as bulletproof as Elongated Muskrat claimed it was.
I mean, if it was only gonna stay as proof of concept, I would've not minded the "low-poly blender" look. But it provokes me to say what the hell at every angle possible.
Starts at 40 grand tho. That's cheaper than some normal trucks now and days iirc. Nah wait the Silverado starts at like 29 grand, I was incorrect. Still rather cheap for a crew cab truck that has a claimed 1,000 torque.
OK, so back to the Cruze and Cavalier. Since the base Cavalier engine was the 2.2, and the base Cruze engine was the 1.4, I'm going to compare the two. Cavalier - Cruze: 120 HP - 153 HP 140 lbft - 177 lbft 23 MPG EPA - 32 MPG EPA Noticeably better.
So before launch, Tesla did say they had a radical design, but also a backup design if people didn't like it. I think the backup will happen. Think they said at one point that they would also do a large SUV on the pickup platform in future. Could be interesting.
Yeah, I don't know how seriously to take this announcement either. As I mentioned in my last post, I think they will have a hard time getting that thing globally homologated. For the US market alone they would have to figure out how to meet bumper impact rules. I also didn't see any waterproofing seals/gaskets on the tailgate, if it rains, is stuff in the back actually going to stay dry? Equally, where the windows meet the C pillars there is a huge forward facing flat surface, this would create a lot of noise and turbulance while driving. Equally, those wheel rims genuinely would not work. They would cause pinch flats when running at low pressures, and possibly lead to other weirdness. I am very tempted to say this is a pure concept car, of which Tesla is pushing as being real in order to get back into the news cycle with people talking about them. If this is remotely like the real thing, its clearly so early in the design that its got some major changes to undergo. Perhaps this could pivot towards Tesla stating that they are open to creating specialist custom vehicles ontop of their platform? Just to add a little more, the A-pillars are legit big enough to hide another Cybertruck, nevermind a normal car.
Oh I'm sorry, it's so god damn ugly I thought it was a SsangYong. What's that? It's a Tesla? Ooooooof.
I personally like the thing, it's got a hardcore blade runner vibe to it and it's got like over 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
I'm trying to imagine the stereotypical redneck American pickup driver fitting into that Tesla pickup. I just can't...
Space rednecks sounds... Plausable actually. There was that flat-earther who launched himself up in a homemade rocket. Twice. The thing is, stereotypical rednecks make up a big chunk of the pickup market. Take out said rednecks who will never consider an electric truck and you're just left with... Not much. Then consider the fact that by the time this truck hits the market the usual players will also have electric entries for the 10% who will consider an electric truck... It seems like a good truck, albiet ugly as hell. But it's going into a stiff market and it isn't as good as a van or semi for fleet sales where an electric automomous vehicle would be a far easier sell.
Complete with suicide doors. Fancy. I found it funny too about the glass breaking. I think the body of the truck itself looks strong, like it'd do really well in crashes. When it comes to headroom, looks to me like the front passengers will have the best. I feel the same way about it. The overall design to me looks absolutely like something out of sci-fi media, like Blade Runner or Total Recall. Like something you'd see cruising around on a colonized Mars or something. But, when it comes to electric trucks, I think I like the design of the Rivian R1T better. So in other words, Sonic Redesign: Electric Boogaloo? Lol. Space rednecks. *rofl emoji* As for some of my other thoughts on the design, I really want to think that this is absolutely not what the production model would look like. For example, the dashboard looks like the typical minimalistic concept design. The production model would probably have a lot more going on, and definitely have a different steering wheel. As for the body, it'd probably be tweaked a little bit, but I have no clue how much.
