Certain vehicles have a feature where the gearbox will automatically upshift in manual mode if the engine hits the rev-limiter. Can this be implemented in BeamNG, similar to the "autoShiftDowninM" flag that can already be programmed into automatic gearboxes?
It probably can be implemented into manual transmissions. The only ones that have that right now are the DCT in S mode
I hate that feature irl tbh, if i have chosen manual mode i want it to hit the revlimiter and not all of a sudden change gear, causing the car to do surprising things. I have a auto AWD Nissan Stagea which doesnt change gear in manual mode, that way i dont get surprised when, for example, doing some inspiring winter driving.
It's a safety feature I suppose. It would be interesting to see in-game eventually, but I'd only see this being appropriate on lower-end cars.
Yeah, I don't know how I would feel if my default SBR4 started shifting on its own. It would make the driving experience kinda boring. Now, on a Sunburst or the lower-spec 800 series models, it'll fit.
I specifically implemented it so it does not shift. If you are in manual, purely you are in control of when shifts happen.
SBR4 is a high-end sports car, it obviously would allow you to manually shift. If I'm correct, it also has a DCT, not a typical torque converter auto. There's a big difference between a family sedan/SUV vs a sports car. He's talking about on a lower end car, like a roamer or pessima. Like cars IRL with shiftronic. For example, my old 2005 Tucson has it. If I was in 'manual' mode, the trans would auto shift up for me at redline. That's what JDMguy means. I would like to see this added in too, now that this is mentioned. On low-end cars, cars that aren't meant for racing would have this feature. Like my Tucson, it wasn't a low-end trim package - I have the GLS version with the v6 and AWD + leather interior, but it has the 4-speed auto.
We already have auto DOWN in "M" though, why not give the OPTION (all stock vehicles could have it disabled) to have auto UP when the rev-limiter activates? Nissan, Acura, BMW, Audi, and a few other mfrs IRL do this.
yes, but maybe not the ones ingame. IIRC a car like the SBR4 or ETK 800 wouldn't have this option because their real life inspirations dont.
I personally think the cars shouldn't be limited to their real-life counterparts. That would make everything kinda boring. For example, the SBR4 is based on the R35 GTR and the R8 I'm pretty sure, and neither one of those cars is rear-engined or come with RWD as a factory option, or flat engine layouts.
I know, it's important for Beam cars to really not represent one single car. They instead represent car classes or types, and the sbr's class likely wouldnt have an auto upshift feature.
