Front wheel drive, non-V8 Blazer that looks like an Equinoix Front wheel drive Non V8 Looks like an Equinox why
Personally I don't care that they're building yet another crossover, but why would they use the Blazer name?
I don't think the name Blazer is intended to denote something special right? Its just another name. This isn't the first time a vehicle with the name Blazer hasn't had a V8 offered. It just looks like another nameplate that has adapted over time to be whatever the market is after.
Taking a look at wikipedia, you can get it with a V6 and an AWD system... So I am not sure I see the issue? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Blazer_(crossover) Yeah, you can configure it with a V6 AWD configuration
I was half-joking about the entire "Modern crossover bad" thing, but I genuinely/objectively am pissed off by how this thing looks. Side profile is great but the front end is just...Well see my profile picture? Yeah. When I heard that Chevy was gonna make a new Blazer I immediately thought "Oooh please look like an old K5" and it turned out to be this and I was super bummed.
I think I may be an SUV guy. Not modern FWD lifted hatchbacks, no sir, real big RWD 3 row SUVs with a proper engine in them. Think Chevrolet Taho or Ford Expedition. I’m big, and you in your silly little food blender are small. I can crush you. I will go through you in an accident. If the accident is your fault you deserve to die. If the accident is my fault... I have a near clean driving record, I don’t cause accidents. Fear me, for I am mighty.
You have an old Grand Cherokee. Crash into a modern fullsize truck or SUV, and you'll be the one in trouble.
To answer my own question: Yep, @redrobin in fact has a Cherokee. Weighing in at 3900 pounds (probably 4000) it is, in fact, significantly lighter than my MIGHTY '74 Electra Wagon, which weighs in at just past 5,400 pounds. Fear me, mortal.
A Lincoln Navigator L weighs about 6000, and has the modern safety equipment. And then you have HD pickup trucks, which in the heaviest configurstions can go well over 7000.
Hence why I bought a 1992 Suburban a few months ago. People give me so much space when I drive it and I almost always get waved through. Unfortunately, it has oil getting into the cylinders, was severly neglected, and probably overheated too many times, so I haven't been able to drive it for a while. On the bright side, a new 350 shortblock is only about $1000, so with some nice heads, intake, and new accessories, I can have a brand new engine in my truck for less than $3000.
AWD is not the same as 4WD. I kinda doubt that the Blazer has a locking center diff, maybe some traction control nannies that can make it do all right in off road scenarios, as long as ground clearance isn't an issue. The V6 doesn't bother me. What bothers me most is that they could have used this opportunity to make something off road capable to compete with the upcoming Bronco, but instead they wasted it on yet another f-ing crossover.
