So my budget has been decreased, I can get a 9700k for 190$ (intel epp) or I can get a 3600 for 190 with an included good cooler, cheaper mobo options. My question is which one of these should I get for beamng, which can simulate more cars. The 9700k doesn't have multithread but it runs at 4.9 ghz. The 3600 does have multithread but only 6c/12t and it boosts to around 4.2. Which one of these can simulate more cars?
I also recommend Ryzen on the basis of price and the fact that I own a 3600 myself Not to mention that the Ryzen actually comes with a cooler, and it's a good one too. I have no idea which one will run more cars comfortably, but I've no problems with 6 cars running at the same time with this CPU.
Honestly for this game I'd suggest a 2700x. But if you plan on playing more then just beamng.drive I'd go for 3600
Agreed. If you want the best performance in beam then go with a 2700x and you will be able to spawn 2 more cars in traffic than the 3600.
This is very likely true, though the 2700x would only win vs. the 3600 in a situation where you have more than 6 cars in the game. I would advise against building a PC with a single game in mind, let alone a single specific situation of that game, so I'd still recommend the 3600 for its newer architecture and overall better performance.
I have a 2600 which also has 6 cores (12 threads) yet I run 8 cars at once & get 50-60fps on medium settings on a map like American Road
I can run 7-8 cars on Utah with high settings and 50-55 fps with my 8600k (6 cores 6 threads), but generally for this game the more cores the better.
I run 12 cars @ 60fps, but there are then random stops when traffic cars respawn, running 10 cars is without random stops and 60fps. You might want it all, high clock speed, best IPC and as many cores as possible. Hyperthreading is not hugely useful I think, without HT or with it, almost same performance, physics might not benefit from HT as much as other code, maybe that is why. Watercooling and lot of fans for longer gaming sessions, or open case, at least if running gtx1080 or something like that as it does produce good amount of heat, despite running below 60C all times. I think most important is to have good cooling, no matter what brand one chooses, something that can cope with full load for several hours. Also if room is small, you don't need space heater during the winter as playing BeamNG is enough to have unpleasantly warm room temperatures. Even in big room I get 3C increase in room temperature by playing BeamNG, if people play this globally that would mean GLOBAL WARMING!
