after trying for about a half hour, i dont think i can use my wheel with beam for racing..yet anyway. Dont like the feel of it all, to used to having FFB and being able to feel understeer/oversteer and when your loose/tight etc. (not see, but feel). I oversteer and understeer a lot without being able to tell, but yeah best i could get was a 2:01 something. Im sure i could get a bit better with some practice on the keyboard.
On The Nostalgia II track, I think a 900 degree wheel is a big benefit. How many degrees does your wheel turn ?
900 degrees...i only use the full 900 for road course racing on iRacing though. I dont really like 'throwing' my wheel around when going around a sharp turn. Or maybe im too used to iRacings steering ratio setting. (14:1 being highest, 8:1 being lowest). I like the customizable ratios because on ovals i dont like to turn my wheel that much, and use 'steering offset' (+2 Deg., +4 Deg. etc) (+2 is when your wheel is slightly right going straight, like how some teams have it set in nascar). I find it really hard to adjust to new wheel settings and be consistent and fast with it (in iRacing, with FFB), but in Beam i itsnt comfortable at all. The feel of a 'dead' wheel type of thing i guess...if all that makes sense lol.
I would say the same about you with the thrustered Subaru i can't get under 2:00:00 .. I'm wondering how you even got under 1:50:00.. care to release the car as i assume you're using your "Race Covet"?
sure, no problem. i'll send you a pm (only to respect the mod itself as it truly belongs to JDMclark, i just changed some jbeam). i am asking about LSDMT's time because i hit 1:52 with the zakspeed capri a few minutes after my 1:54 time - i want to know if there's something i am doing differently. i am pretty sure i could hit 1:50 or faster pretty easy with the capri. edit: also i am happy to release a video of any requested time. i'd have to redo my covet time + the 1:52, but i can get them to you if you'd like. edit2: (imported from here) video on the way
Your car/config is awesome. 1:56:14 after like, what, 5 minutes of driving That's sick. I'm voting for it for being the offical track time car.
the handling is pretty much all thanks to JDMClark - it refuses to understeer and is fun to drive at high speed. i just gave it some more power and extremely minor suspension changes. here is 1:49 with the capri: the 'secret' to this car is that it _has_ to be driven with the throttle pinned. if you're on the throttle, it will oversteer at high speed and the silly aerodynamics will correct its direction. if you're NOT on the throttle (not braking, simply off the throttle) and try to take a turn, it will just understeer and send you into the cliff. i'm not sure why, but i think it has to do with the aerodynamics. notable examples include: 0:25 - have to slow down for this corner, i make sure to be going slow enough when i enter the turn to be able to accelerate through it. 1:00 - if you even think about letting off the gas on this turn you will understeer and be sent into the cliff. notice you can see my tiremarks from earlier attempts where i let off the gas. you must break the grip of your tires and slide around the turn. 1:13 - exact same case as above. it's a lot less tricky than it looks, the car will stabilize itself at these speeds. 1:38 - this corner sharpens pretty hard and if you don't know it's coming it will be too late. break grip with the throttle pinned - friction will slow you down while not causing understeer. so basically, keep the throttle pinned for the entire track except for the corner at 0:25
Yes, I was using the default car, I'm guessing your using the default car in your video as well?. I'll try to beat your 1:49 if I get the time..Nice lap! I actually quite like the Capri and it's aero. I'm not a fan of the various awd Covet mods, which are hyper unrealistic..
I've already modded my Capri so it's undriveable on that particular map ... the Capri has so much downforce that it drives somewhat stable at speeds of 600kmh and more gotta give it a try on default setup.
I'd like to also know what the tire's grip coef. number is in the jbeams. For a vehicle to 'never' understeer, sounds a bit ridiculous.
download jdmclarks covet gti read the tire friction value i added 0.05 iirc. the thing is all wheel drive with a tight LSD and small wheelbase. it seems to turn inwards/oversteer no matter what. the default covet does the same thing, so i dunno. it's a horrible car to drive in most cases, but it sure is quick in a straight line and easy to slide around turns with. fun combination with a controller.
mmm think im gonna be addicted to this map for a while, Go go gadget Grand Marshal. Best time so far 2:43, i reckon i could pull that sub 2:35. If only this car didnt have such arse for gears. Too used to driving a 5speed close ratio irl. - - - Updated - - - Man are theese thigns boaty in the front end. Standard GM-Sport. (though id love to stiffen the front shocks a little to prevent so much boating. and of course getting a much better gearbox. http://i.imgur.com/YZgsuG4.jpg 2:27:22 Also fun playing with "Tire mark lifetime: -1" and "tire mark Fadetime: -1" http://i.imgur.com/rRw8YAw.jpg (hah you can totally see me falling off in one of those shots) and if you cant really see it, here are the originals (beware large image size) http://i.imgur.com/bp03qCl.jpg (Oh and these trees need a killcounter) http://i.imgur.com/L43Bm9M.jpg
