At the moment almost every car has windshields that are inseparable from the pillars and frame of the car resulting in stretched glass which as we all know is very unrealistic and looks bad. An easy solution to this could be making the windscreen a separate part that can separate and not stretch when the cars pillars are stretched. Ofcourse metal tearing would also solve some problems and be nice for realism but atm I don’t think that is possible. Something like this would make sense:
I'm sure this is something they've attempted (or at least puncturable windshields) but was either canceled, abandoned or never even got off the drawing board. I think the windshields are probably the most and pretty much only unrealistic factor of the damage models. They shatter very easily but don't actually break. This is rather difficult to implement, which is why not too many games simulate the glass detaching but instead the glass just shattering. The game's still rather far from a final release. I reckon they won't start tweaking the damage until at least 0.20.
Seems like a good idea, and knowing that the BeamNG developers can make functioning hydraulics, this shouldn't be too hard. However, I don't really think windscreens would come off in a crash, unless you're driving the Wentward, which would be awesome to have the windows come off.
My point is anything is better than stretching glass. A windscreen is a separate part anyway so that’s how it should be. Or they could implement the disappearing texture when it gets too much stretched like how it is for metal right now.
I mean. Probably not even .20, you make a good statement on this but a system feature or mechanic let alone optimization for this feature would probably take longer than that. maybe game version .28 or even .30. All though I don't think there focused on improving glass breakage atm either but you never know. --- Post updated --- Just glass that has individual fractures seem's like something that would be very big to do.
