Somehow this math problem has gone viral and I want to see if the community in Beamng is smart.

    8 ÷ 2( 2 + 2 )

My answer is 1, people state it to be 16.

    8 ÷ 2( 2 + 2 )
    = 8 ÷ (2 x 4)
    = 8 ÷ 8
    = 1

I was taught that 2( 2 + 2 ) would be it's own problem that should be solved before you proceed with the whole problem.

    by bodmas, i've got 16.
    brackets: 2+2 =4
    Division: 8 ÷ 2= 4
    multiply the answers: 4x4=16

but if it is read as
8 divided by 2x4, you get one

1 and 16 are BOTH correct. There is an ambiguity with the notation. PEMDAS, and BOMBDAS both reveal a different answer. There are even calculators giving different answers.

This is why I tend to use more parenthesis rather than minimal when expressing math so that the order is absolutely clear.

Well wait, why the left bracket had moved left? Should't it be 8 ÷ 2 x (4)?

because the 2 connected to the bracket would be this (2(2 + 2)). I'm not that smart, but that is how I learnt it. Using pemdas or whatever it is.
