My coworker and i accidentally locked the keys inside of a running 2018 Ford Edge ecoboost that was sitting in the wash bay. Not a good situation. We were able to get back into it in about 5 minutes via the inflated sack and bent metal rod method. Rolled the front passenger window down. Manager never even knew. I say my coworker and I because we'll never know who hit the lock button. We vacuumed and wiped down each half of the car respectively. After washing the exterior we realized the doors were locked.
I would like to take a moment to reflect on the sorry state of cybersecurity research. The term "vulnerability" used to mean a way to gain unauthorized access to a system, while now it pretty much means "wacky thing that a team of Ph.D's could maybe do if they already have full, unfettered access to your systems." While researchers are digging around for things like advanced machine-learning-based exploits that require full admin access, I wonder how many IoT devices have undiscovered security holes in their firmware. Your smoke alarm could be mining Bitcoin or posting anti-semitic Youtube comments without your knowledge. I think that's a little more important than "theoretical corner case of obscure microarchitectural feature #12498." Also, I'm never buying Intel again, for obvious Ryzens-- I mean, reasons.
maybe i'm a smoke alarm and my connection (life) is based on a static IP, and after 100 years or there abouts, the router does some DHCP magic and re allocates it's IP addresses and i lose connection, and a new connection is formed. (philosophical *shrug*) Also i only just got your joke and wow
It may have locked itself. Some cars do that if all the doors are closed for a certain amount of time.
My courtesy car definitely does, it also does so if you walk away from it with the keys, and makes a large beep sound to let you know it did you a favour. Yet to see what the new car will do. Won't get to pick it up til Tuesday
I (theoretically) register my Jeep tomorrow. Taking it on a camping trip next week. I can't wait for that. Say what you want about traditional SUV's, the thing has so much room in it with the back seats down that I'm camping IN it, rather than transporting a tent with it. Still needs tires and an oil change. That'll all come in due time, though.
Most newer cars seem to make it almost impossible to inadvertently lock the key fob in the car with the engine running. They don't ever lock themselves when stopped, and you can't lock the doors when they're open. But it still manages to happen. They were both on the ring in the console cupholder. It was only closed up when we washed the exterior, after quickly vacuuming and wiping the interior. It's easy to accidentally hit the lock button during that process, but the car won't lock. Me and my coworker have a combined 3 years experience of doing this and it's never happened to either of us. They say it's bound to happen to you eventually in car rental.
I'm semi in shock that Rockstar games has implemented the casino update in the way that they have. Considering how much talk there currently is about putting regulations in place surrounding gambling in video games, I figured Rockstar would have been smarter than building a casino that you can spend real money on. Its so blatant. No longer does anyone have to make the argument "its kinda like gambling but dressed up differently", because they have built an actual... literal... casino. Its so short sighted on their behalf that it blows my mind that they did this. Rather than milking the cash cow, they have put up a massive bullseye on their business model.

I can't move for thunderflies. They are on the walls, the ceilings, the beds, inside the computer screens, and on the windows. I just had a shower, and while drying myself I had to scrape the dead carcasses of thunderflies off of me because they invaded my towel while I was showering. Not at all used to there being quite so many of them.
I'd recently forgotten how good metal music is. I'd sub-consciously taken a break. Why did I? I'd forgotten how much I love it. Just blasting hard, distorted riffs and headbanging. Every band (except for Avenged Sevenfold (Who are not metal and suck oh so heavily)) has their own sound and their own ideas. You can start at psychedelic with Black Sabbath, then move to absolutely brutal, gritty topics out of SOAD or Slipknot, then over to sweeping, beautiful melodic death metal riffs out of Nightwish or Insomnium, then over to Metallica or DragonForce when you're feeling speedy, brutal, long solos. Post-Industrial, Death, Black, Nu, Grunge, Speed, Core God I love it all.
