i saw an r plate driver crash into a pole here: 54.150993, -6.274961
completely destroyed the base of the pole, only minor cosmetic damage to the seat. he had to be dragged out with a rope because the pole was wedged under the lower control arm

Concrete doesn’t take blunt force impacts too well. That’s probably why.

Looks like an Evora on steroids to me. But regardless. Carlton, Cortina, esprit, eclat, debatably the GT1.

Today I noticed that the Renault Espace in the Initiale trim is only badged as "Initiale", with no "Espace" badging.

Real faith in the nameplate, huh?

If the pictures I've seen are anything to go by, I think the C8 Corvette looks like an absolute beast, and the fact that they're somehow keeping its price tag under $60,000 is honestly impressive (at least from the sources I've seen). With it becoming mid-engine, I was thinking that the price for the base model alone was going to skyrocket to something like the price of the Ford GT ($400,000+).

Welp, RIP Corvette. You had a good run, now it's time for you to get ruined and die like everything else good in car culture.

Whilst its the end of an era for the Corvette ditching the FR layout, I think its a better step forward to making it more competitive against the far more expensive European alternatives. A Mid-engine RWD V8 sports car with a sub 3 second 0-60 all for under 60k truly is a phenomenal achievement. Whilst yes it does look a bit generic, the Corvette really hasn't looked special for about 50 years.

Also I still don't get the complaints about the new Supra.
It was a either have a BMW based Supra or have no Supra at all. Money to develop niche sports cars doesn't just grow on trees, whilst yes a BMW powertrain is obviously not ever going to be as reliable as a Toyota powertrain would have been, I'm not going to complain that a 90s JDM hero has returned with a German performance heart instead of Toyota giving us another boring SUV. If its no new sports car or a JDM-German sports car, anyone with a brain will opt for the latter.

Na, it's a good thing they finally made it mid engine after teasing everyone with 9 concept cars.
    Change is sometimes good.

Is that a Corvette, or a Ferrari with Corvette badges?;)

I don’t think it looks awful, but it doesn’t look like a Corvette.

Well, it was released (I wasn't really excited for it) and I unfortunately didn't find it any amusing or 'majestic' as some people said it was.

Not like I had much hope in Chevrolet to begin with.

Probably the last generation Corvette before overzealous regulators abruptly ban all use of gasoline without bothering to check whether a viable alternative is widely available and affordable, and they make a fucking pasta burner Ferrari. Absolute disgrace.

Whilst the side profile is very Ferrari, the front & rear are unmistakably Corvette.

It's just like that Lotus above. If you told me it was from Grand Theft Auto, I'd have believed you. Just a disgrace.

Thank you. I sorta disagree about Corvettes not looking special though.

Agreed, a lot of people find change scary. I'm pretty sure everybody complaining about the C8 and saying the Corvette is dead would've said the Corvette was dead a long time ago had any of the previous concepts made it past the concept stage and entered production. I could easily see the CERV III (a favorite of mine alongside the Aerovette) in particular being called a Honda/Acura NSX wannabe.

    https://www.automobilemag.com/news/nine-mid-engine-corvette-concepts-led-to-2020-c8/

IMO, it was only a matter of time before a mid-engine Corvette passed the concept stage and got sold to the public.

Also, at least the Corvette C8 will still be a sports car bred for performance, which is in line with what the Corvette has been for decades. Chevrolet could've easily followed Mitsubishi's example with the Eclipse and turned the Corvette into either a crossover, a SUV, or a minivan, which would completely miss the point and spirit of the Corvette. If that happened, THEN I would agree the Corvette would be officially dead.

In fact, I found a pretty scary article about just that.
