This is why BeamNG doesn’t work on phones. This phone is an exception since it’s an unusual device but it still isn’t playable at all. It took 5 mins just to load gridmap and it also only ran this very outdated version of the game. Still interesting to see it though.

Is also an 8 year old device. Modern Intel atom processors do have a bit more umph to them. You could probably get many times that frame rate on a modem device.

Not to say that a modern Intel atom would offer a good experience. It would still be rather bad :p

I tried a celeron n4100, it was errm, an experience, though turns out that was in 4W TDP, I've since unlocked the TDP limot

I remember trying to run BeamNG on a 2-in-1 tablet with an intel atom a while back, I think I remember getting somewhere around 20-30 FPS on lowest settings on gridmap. That one did run the latest version of the game at the time. I think there's still a forum post on here about it somewhere.

Tried on a Core2 Duo 2,66 Ghz & GeForce 7800 GS (AGP, 512 MB). Not exactly a smooth gameplay experience.

Is AMD Radeon 6770 still good for budget gaming paired with a core2 quad 3.0 OC at 3.6?

Depends on what your definition of "good" is.

Just keep in mind that something like an RX 550 would kick its ass. It's even slower than the Vega 8 iGPU AMD are using in some of their modern APUs.

Maybe it will do 720p 20fps? It's just weaker than even the most entry level stuff they still produce.

a lot of new games wont even start because the hd 6770 has no driver support but if you run unofficial drivers it should run older games just fine

I doubt you'll even get that. You could get something like a 650ti for about the same price on ebay, and that card is a bit better. Do you have one already, or are you looking to buy?
    --- Post updated ---
    Even a 750 ti
    --- Post updated ---
I didn't realize 660 tis were so cheap now, but that is also in the same range, better than any of the cards I just mentioned

To be fair, the leaps in performance through pi generations are monumental. 700mhz Arm11 single core to 900mhz cortex A7 quad core to 1.2(later 1.4)GHz cortex a53 to now a 1.5ghz a72 and options for 1/2/4gb ram, plus the built in WiFi and bluetooth in pi 3's and onwards, plus the gen 1+ getting quad USB, gen 3 getting the USB hub upgraded, gen 4 splitting to a PCIe based USB solution and native ethernet to the SoC.

Theyve changed a huge amount, much more functional machines now.
Failing that, always useful for hosting a private web server, and now with gigabit ethernet theyre even decent NAS devices.

Future project of mine, there's already a few pi based handheld consoles, the thorn in their side is pi boot time, a few tweaks though and I think I can optimise the power efficiency of some of them to bring a quite reasonable sleep state in at which point cold boot won't be necessary

    I guess my point is;
    • If I wanted a TV media box, I would plug my laptop into the TV and use that.
    • If I wanted something powerful to play games on the go, I would use my phone.
    • etc
I already own more capable and convenient hardware for doing somewhat heavyweight stuff that I want to do. Aka, the type of stuff that benefits from an OS.

Then for embedded style applications; to me its like building a toaster that runs Linux. Sure, you can do it, and it would work. But do you really need a full OS to achieve those goals, or is it an awfully inelegant and inefficient solution to a problem?

So to me the RaspberryPi lives in this middle space, where its too bloated to do anything simple, but not compelling enough compared to other stuff that I own to do anything complex. If I could plug it into my PC, write some C++ code on my PC, compile it, and have it run natively on the RaspberryPi hardware, then it would suddenly become a really interesting device for me. Since then, it would be genuinely powerful hardware, that I can write code for at a fairly low level. Whether that be games, home automation or whatever weird stuff I feel like. But I guess Arduino already half fills that gap in the market, minus the performance, RAM, or storage capacity.

With that said, there are of course many great uses for a RaspberryPi. The work they are doing to bring computers to people who could otherwise not afford one is fantastic, and an example of where these devices really shine. Networking is also something that I have been lead to believe they are good for, but its also something that I don't enjoy.

Ahem. You can, and there's entire books on the subject of doing so for the pi specifically, also quite a few on bare metal assembly for the pi

Just had a quick cursory look into that, it looks like you still have to rely on a Linux kernel in order to do that? Still a lot better than running the full OS though. So I could see that being useful.

For the type of stuff that I do, assembly is a bit too low level, but obviously it has its place for certain projects.

The new Ryzen 3700x looks pretty sweet. Scan are listing it at £319.99, which seems like a good price too. Motherboards seem to be around the £200 mark, ranging from £160 to £703 if you want an "MSI GODLIKE" motherboard :p

Tbf, you probably don't wanna have the first batch anyway :p

My guess is that whenever sales happen, Intel will be doing some more aggressive than usual price cuts. So I am kinda interested to see what happens on Prime day in a few days time. But as of right now, its looking likely that my next PC won't have Intel Inside.

Can do it without Linux. Like end of the day, what is Linux, a bare metal c++ application.
The pi just expects a kernel.img on an SD card, provide it one, it'll boot it

As for 3900X, mine should be delivered on Tuesday

My Ryzen 7 1700 is a first batch chip and it's beyond reliable. I was able to get it to 4GHz with some tinkering.
