A lot of cars in game could get their model years bumped up and back with facelifts, it's weird that only the Moonhawk and I-Series have facelifts. Hopper, H-Series, and D-Series definetly could get their model years widened massively with some facelift parts.

Well I mean it's real life counterpart the 1st gen DeSoto Firedome had a production life from 1952 - 1954, so maybe it could be the same but doubt it would be much longer because by 1955 most American cars had a more streamline body then most early 50s vehicles.

See how the rear quarter of the first Firedome and Bel Air is much more pronounced the it's 1955 model.

Lots of American cars in the 50s, especially luxury cars, ran really short production runs. Some only made a year before heavy facelifts. 10 year plus production runs were only really on trucks, and didn't come to cars until the 70s and 80s when American manufacturers started struggling.
Gabester said the D-series was meant to be a facelift of an older truck, and it's frame was kept into use until at least 1999 by the Roamer, so it's safe to assume a newer D-series would've used it too. The D-series frame probably ran ~1980 to 2000, similar to most real trucks. However, the D-series already has the most configs (and probably total content) of any vehicle in the game. The devs don't want to add another 30+ configs for a newer and older generation, even if they wouldn't be much work, and same for the other vehicles.

The configs for a couple of vehicles are getting messy while others still just have a few. Tossing stuff like facelifts and transmission options into a menu option instead of unique configs would help a lot. Hopefully after they finish cleaning up the body design's or get the new UI in they will clean up the configs. How messy the UI is really should not be the limiting factor for content.

What you are describing are facelifts, not entirely new models.

Yes, but they are pretty heavy facelifts. Like I said before, a lot of American cars in the 50s received pretty heavy facelifts, in some cases yearly. They also got new engines and had old engine options removed quite often too. The Burnside Special no doubt continued beyond 1954, but it probably received a heavy facelift, enough to be considered a new generation.

In the 60s, the Ford Fairlane, like clockwork, received a new model every 2 years.

It’s probably safe to assume the Bluebuck is quite separate from the Burnside.

I know this might be hard but a convertible version (soft top / hard top / both) that actually works (moving roof)

The issue is that a convertible would require multiple body styles, which no vehicle in game has. A second issue with a hard top specifically is it's a stretch historically. The Ford Skyliners are the only cars I know of comparable to the Bluebuck that would have such a thing.

I don't know - I'm holding out hope that the dev team will finally supply multiple body styles on the same platform - even if only by leaving certain components in the 'common' folder so other variants can be built later, like what they did with the 800- and K-series.

I really hope they are waiting for when the time is right to start focusing on content more. I expect the Bluebuck and Wendover (along with any surprise vehicles pre-1.0) to have content in line with what we already have at the time of their initial release. Hopefully when the game gets further along they will start pumping out vehicle content. We aren't anywhere near the level of content (both vehicles and to a lesser extent maps) that I am comfortable with for a vehicle simulator and a game with a career mode, or where I assumed it would be by now from what was said in Over the Horizon/Steam Greenlight campaign. I don't know if they are waiting for a future time or they plan to keep the current development levels for the remainder of the project. I would love an Over the Horizon 2 just so I know where my expectations should be. If I need to curb my expectations then that's fine; I understand that they are a 40-something person team self publishing their project, not a giant AAA company. However, I would prefer to know sooner rather than later.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record repeating the same thing every day, but I love this game and I want to see it be successful and fill a niche that has been empty for a very long time. I really am not sure what to expect and getting concerned that the devs are relying on community mods too much for content, which ought to be their job to ship with the game.

What? (The Capri is really more of a 2 person coupe, but it's still a hardtop.)

If that's the case, then yes. At the time, the Skyliner was the only car with that feature.

Seriously, the D-series is the King of Config Spam even without any mods. If they were going to make an older or newer (Roamer-styled) version, they'd probably have to make it a separate entity like the 1988 and 1996 Pessimas.

Not that I mind, of course. The latest run of config spam made its lineup much more complete by providing the AT 4x2 and MT 4x4 variants that had been missing previously, and the same with the Roamer. Now we just need long beds, but the devs have said that would be too much hassle to maintain across versions.

(Well, there are some engine variants still missing. 5.5L half-tons, diesel 3/4-tons, an N/A diesel, a bigger gas engine exclusive to the 3/4-ton and one-ton variants. Also the H-series has been seriously missing out on the config spam to the point where it doesn't even have an MT half-ton variant without tools and company logos preinstalled.)

The real life D-Series counterparts were so versitile, it really shouldn't be shorted for the messy UI. Hopefully the new UI will take steps to clean up the clutter. If facelifts, export versions, LWB options, transmision options, and AWD options were menu options for a single thing in the selector instead of having dedicated spots in the config selector, the menu would be so much neater for the Moonhawk, I-Series, and D-Series as they currently are. There's no reason for a single vehicle to have so many spots in the vehicle selector (ex: a single I-Series config can have a pre-facelift/facelift, AWD/RWD, and Auto/Manual option. That causes so much extra clutter)

This post is related to the Bubu because it really should have a lot of configs due to the hisorical importance of the Impala so it may have a cluttered menu

The H-series is lacking, you have a point. And considering older American Pickups could basically have parts mix-and-matched by the dealer, as well as lots of non-stock but dealer supplied parts (like work beds, Flatbeds, etc.) you could easily push the D-series into 100s of configs without much trouble. And other vehicles will probably pick up more configs too as the game reaches completion, now that drivetrain and physics stuff is pretty much final, and sound is close to being final, older vehicles won't need to be updated as much. If nothing else, I would like the ability to choose vehicles by model year in the car menu itself.
