Seems pretty unappreciative of such an excellent game with a great dev team, community, and very decent graphics at the very least. It's not the developer's fault if you run the game on a potato crate.

It's true though. The graphics are really underwhelming for a game of it's caliber. Plus, you get horrible performance considering the end product. Far Cry 5, for example, looks gorgeous and runs wonderfully. I get 90+ FPS at max settings. In Beamng, I still get 90 FPS but the end results look like runny mashed potatoes compared to Far Cry 5.

Is there room for improvement in the graphics? Absolutely. But still, I think they look pretty nice. Maybe not compared to some other games, but still very nice.

You're comparing a console first-person shooter to a realistic physics game driving game on pc. Think about that.

    what are your specs?
are you running the game on max settings?
    have you considered adding Ray-Tracing?
Have you considered using CarKiller's graphical enhancements?
    ReShade?

please dont make threads like this w/out specifying if you have done/listed any of the things i just listed above.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK ray-tracing is not supported in BeamNG
Also reshade doesn't work properly anymore with the new UI.

No, I believe it was just settings that simulate the effect of ray tracing.

BeamNG was never about graphics, their priority is physics.

Other than that, I think the graphics are amazing.

There's just something to beam's graphics that's just missing to me, and i don't know what it is, but beam's graphics feel soft compared to games like fm3/4

i think the issue is that the lighting has basically 2 settings: in shadow, and in sunlight. (ignoring light sources like headlights, streetlights, etc.)- it's shown really well in the below screenshot of inside the carport.
@VeyronEB 's Screenshots on experimenting with raytracing in this post really shows what's missing from the stock game:

That, combined with a bit of tonemapping and bloom... That’s real life!

I really like the graphics of beam (gi and pbr would be nice though) my biggest problem is the lack of image clarity though the picture is very unstable and would really benefit from some form of temporal aa or even some upscaling solutions a lot of current gen console games use i dont know though how viable this is with torque3D ??

As long as they fix the broken shadows (it disappears at some camera angles)
But im sure they will do stuff with the graphic
when they have finished all the physics and game elements they want to have ingame.

Rain can be added to any map but the vanilla ones dont use it yet. TOD/day and night cycles can be used and modded to any extent on any map but same there. I have also heard/seen talk about weather system, i think..
The flat graphics is the very reason ive started so many different ways of improving graphics. Latest one now is the Tonemapping fix along with the ssao quality improvement and the other things in that. It along with my Alternative Lighting (not yet adjusted to the now functioning Tonemapping) changes alot IMO and even without it so much can be gained by just adjusting the sky and lighting settings on e.v.e.r.y map.
BeamNG graphically cant compete with huge games thats backed by tons of money (not gonna say experience here cause the devs got that). But while fixing the tonemapping i saw some intresting pieces of codes here and there and that along with HDR/PostFX/graphics being on the ToDo list of one of the devs might be good news for the gfx-oriented crowd. In my humble opinion BeamNG would gain alot as a game if the graphics and enviroment were more up to standards with todays sims. To be honest, what we're looking for is probably just eyecandy but sometimes tricking the eye is better than presenting the world in its true, dull, individual colors.

Small Indie developer's first game at Alpha stage in Early Access.

Obviously things are not perfect and will be improved upon, however even at early stages it was mentioned that game will not be about graphics, but about physics, not sure how much graphical polish they will make, it could take quite bit of development time from small team to build all new graphics engine able to do all modern tricks without killing the performance.

Far Cry to my knowledge is quite well threaded application, like many shooter games are, but BeamNG is not, with BeamNG also every vehicle adds considerable physics load, graphics, lua etc. need to be separate from physics and thus BeamNG is quite strongly single threaded game that has physics which uses all the cores, it is bit harder to make perform like shooter games, but then again shooter games don't have soft body physics as those are bit hard to pull off for dev teams of shooter games.

Compared to On the Road game, BeamNG is really good looking and runs much better.
