That sucks. Try to figure out which parts are bad with a test rig before you do anything else.

Eh, I don't know. I actually really like my Galaxy Note 8. The experience is no worse than what I had with a Nexus 6, which is one of the predecessors to the Pixel phones.

The forum butchered my post when I posted from my phone (BB code problem). I fixed it.

Ah, I was given Samsung Galaxy, which I have taken maybe 5 photos, other than that I have not found really any use for the thing. Certainly I will not connect the thing to internet, so it just sits on desk untouched easily for a week or more, then it needs charging so it can sit another week untouched.

Have thought about making some gauge display from it, maybe, just too little time for such.

Helmet phone thing and that thin brick can work together so that when I'm on two wheels I can make it to play some music, but that is pretty much all use I have figured out for that, screen is too small to read, lack of keyboard and mouse means it is pita to use, might be that I'm just too old for such technology.

What Galaxy are you talking about? My main (and only) phone is a Galaxy S3 Neo (which I don't think will ever see an Android update nor a security update ever more) and I use it daily to surf the web/online stuff without problems.
It's definitely starting to show its age since it's quite slow compared even to today's budget Samsung phones (1,5 GB of ram baby :p) but if it works, I don't see why I should change it (I mean... It doesn't like 3G connectivity even if the phone itself and my SIM card are 3G compatible, so I'm stuck with H+ all the time).

I installed Windows on Arm on my Raspberry Pi.

Yes, it's just as unusable as you think it is. The base hardware isn't the problem (except for the minuscule amount of RAM), but the fact that the SD card is an SD card and not really made to do this. It makes it especially worse that I'm not using a U-class SD card, only a Class 10 one.

Trying to set up Android on a Raspberry Pi is proving a little more difficult than I first anticipated. It doesn't have the same awesome deployment software that Windows on Arm does, so I'm ahving to fight with programs like Rufus and Etcher, which do weird crap to my SD cards and cause the Pi to fail to POST. Clearly it's a formatting issue, but I don't know how to solve it.

In other news, I recently had to break out my vintage ComputerLab International Cherry MX Black terminal keyboard from the late 80's I kept getting complaints from my parents that my Cherry Blue board was too loud at night when they're tying to sleep and they can hear it through the thin walls of my house. I gotta say: I kinda like it. I love how heavy the actuation is. Sure, I've done a tad bit of long forum posts in the last hour or so and it's really starting to tire my hands out, but that's mainly because I'm used to the much lighter actuation of a Cherry Blue key switch. Other than that, it feelks WAYYYYYYYYYY better than a modern MX Black board, and is practically divine intervention compared to a modern Cherry Red board of anything the like of Razer of Logitech gave to offer. I could absolutely go on a rant about how awful the Roamer-G switch is, but I'll save both you the reading and me the typing. In short: they didn't design the switch for important things like typing feel or reliability or ease of replacement, but for one reason alone. That reason is improved back lighting. That's it. Explains why it feels so horrible. It didn't even improve the back lighting over a typical LED compatible Cherry MX switch. So now it's just an assload of fuck of a switch poisoning people's interpretation of how a proper mechanical switch should feel.

I've become a bit of a keyboard snob recently. I suppose both this Vintage Cherry Black board and my SMK "Monterey" Blue ALPS clone (which feel better than true ALPS Blue, imo) have spoiled me a bit. Switches I used to like (Cherry Brown in particular) are now switches that while I can type extremely fast on, are not at all on my list of nice key switches. I'm slowly but surely coming up with plans to make a wireless TKL board for use with my small HTPC hooked to the TV in my room. It'll be paired with my Logitech G602 on a nice custom made little board thing made out of exotic roods produced by your friendly neighborhood woodworker: Me. Can't wait. I love little projects like that.

Even with a proper SD or running from USB storage, it sadly still sucks. Makes sense, it is a fraction of the potential power of the Snapdragon that is supposed to run it.

Yeah, it's really not at all amazing. It was a fun little experiment nonetheless. I'll just stick to light Linux ARM distros for it, like Raspbian. Runs pretty good when you aren't trying to make it choke down a bloated Microsoft OS.

No need to change from raspbian for most users really. Only thing it's missing, it's 32 bit when the pi CPU is 64, but with only 1gb of ram, meh, who cares. You can get both 32 and 64 bit Ubuntu for it, both are painful

Welp, now I sit here, waiting for a Linux dd to finish moving 500GB of data from a 500GB drive to a 1TB drive. This is going to take the rest of my life.
