Got mine for a little over 100 bucks, but that was in June 2017. It's most likely lower now (early 2019).

I know that a GTX 1050ti is around 150-200 since I got it around a week after Christmas.

it's really not possible to upgrade a GPU in-place, and especially cross generation, unless the laptop is explicitly designed for that.

there are numerous methods of using GPUs externally, but that really wouldn't be worth it for something so old, and with something as cheap as a 1050.

    Hi.

The game's system requirements states DirectX11 in the minimum requirements.
Despite that, some DirectX10 cards did work, and we did put our effort to keep it that way (although still not supported officially)
Although as we are implementing modern techniques there, we are running more and more in the gap where DirectX10 is literally missing the features we need.
Already DirectX10 GPUs had some graphical features missing due that.
0.15 made a straight cut, since DirectX10 GPUs are crashing due missing features in DX10, making it impossible to keep it working.

I warmly invite you to read our blogpost in regards:
    https://blog.beamng.com/deprecation-of-directx10-support/

You are checking the wrong part. As mentioned above, that's what the OS has installed.
You are still bound to what your video hardware actually supports.
This page explains how to check that:

    https://wiki.beamng.com/Incompatible_DirectX

If your hardware is below the requirements (as in, does not support DirectX11), you have the option to roll back to the last known version that is known to work ok with those (also explained in that page above)

It doesn't matter if its pre-installed on Windows, the issue for most players is a hardware limitation not a software limitation

What version of the libraries is installed is one thing, what feature-set your hardware supports is another.

Your system might have DX12 installed, but your display adapter might be limited to DX10 support, for example.

Hi, the same thing has just happened me. It's been a long time since I played BeamNG, I updated BeamNG and can no longer play it now. I was hoping to export a car from Automation Car Tycoon to use in BeamNG. I only have a DirectX 10 card.

I tried going to the beta settings in properties to revert to older version as suggested here https://wiki.beamng.com/Incompatible_DirectX but it only has 'none 'in the option box. Just wondering does anyone know another way I can play the game before it got updated to Directx11 only?

    Thanks

I use a fairly old PC but BeamNG.Drive isn't such a big problem. Ive kept it on 0.14.x for a while and updated it to 0.17.0.2 and it said some dll files were missing so i (kind of fixed those) but now its telling me that my pc does not support DirectX 11 even tho that is what it says on dxdiag.exe so im curious to know what the problem is.

    Error:
Our engine could not initialize a valid DX11 device. etc. When i press OK it closes the error redirects me to https://wiki.beamng.com/Incompatible_DirectX and shows a box that says BeamNG.Drive has exited unexpectedly.

Check the link in the error.
Many people check the wrong DirectX field in DXDiag, as there are multiple.

The one that appears in the main tab refers to what package your OS has installed (Windows 10 will show DirectX12, Windows 7 DirectX11, and so on). That's the highest level supported by the OS.

What you need to check is what your HARDWARE actually supports. If your GPU only support DirectX9, you won't be able to use anything newer. The first chapter in that link explains how you can check that correctly.
