I'm using Proton version 3.16-7 beta but i'm not sure what graphics driver i'm using.

My driver manager says no proprietary drivers are in use.

Do you have an Nvidia or AMD card? You should install the right drivers & that should hopefully fix your problems

Probably the old graphics driver (or none, even) is your cause for BeamNG not working with Steam Play. You need to find a way to get the drivers for you card on Linux & that should be it. Can't really help you much, as I don't own an AMD card

Because you're hosting a laptop with integrated equivalent graphics which are already built into Linux mainline and not powerful enough for beamng as is

But I still play Beamng in windows and can run it at 10-15 fps which doesn't bother me too much, I still enjoy it, unless performance in linux would be worse

depending on how much CPU overhead you have available with that GPU, you might not notice a performance difference. Personally, I lost about half of my vehicle simulation performance under Proton, while GPU performance wasn't notably affected, apart from being even more noticeably cpu-bound in some areas.

idk if mint uses standard-ish debian repositories
