@Glitchy , you need to calm down. Don't be butthurt because Beam isn't going into Maximum Overdrive Hyperrealism mode.

Dude, i think you might be one of the few if not the only one that wants fire to be that realistic, plenty of other stuff for them to focus on. Pretty sure their focus is indeed at many of the important things, not things like fire damaging individual parts.

Just because someones opinion goes against yours, it does not make them butthurt. Do not be that immature, and provoking. Just have a normal discussion.

I think @Glitchy is making a valid point, and I agree with some of it. I think it's a shame they've used resources to make arcade stuff like the track builder when the game main focus is simulating.
Meanwhile the trailer coupling physics are still very much off, and you cannot crash with your truck without the trailer comes flying off. Things like that makes some things seem rushed. Just like the fire which seem to be half way done, but apparently there's not plans at the moment to update it(?)

Generally the team is good to respond to suggestions etc, and I am sure there's proper reasoning and logics behind why they do the things they do them right now. It's just hard not to question these arcade type updates.

Name anything that is more important than making fires at least somewhat realistic? In its current state, the fire can be removed from the game altogether, and realism will only benefit from that. Because a car that can't burn is much more realistic than a car that can travel hundreds of kilometers while engulfed in flames.
If I were to choose what to put in the game next, the Piccolina or semi-realistic vehicle fires, the Piccolina wouldn't have had a chance.

    >Set color to matte black
    >Make car undrivable (remove engine for example)
    >Profit(?)

Tbh I would rather see the AB Piccolina than "realistic" fires. Fire is good as it is, just leave it the way it is. Piccolina is just more important than fire physics right now, save the fire stuff for after we get the Piccolina.

A real fire would have destroyed electronics and fuel lines, rendering your car undrivable.

I think that most critical people have also quite different view of development than how development actually goes, at least for me it appears to be like that.

Piccolina and fire or track builder and fire, there is no substituting either, it is like if you would be thirsty and you would go to walk, just does not make any kind of sense.

Resources are quite different for them, you would be without track builder or Piccolina and fire would still be the same, it really just does not work way you seem to think, you can't use diesel on gasoline car, resources are not like in RTS game development resource 20%, it is bit more complex than that, leaving those things out would of not resulted anything else.

Also when you see something is not when it is developed, there can be work done year ago for example that is merged at later point.

That is how development works, like they have many times mentioned that whole team does not work on one thing.

I didn't say the devs who are currently working on the Piccolina have to abandon it and work on the fire system instead. All I said was that I consider semi-proper fire more important than Piccolina.

Of course it would be fairly easy to do for example disable engine or ignition to 0 when fire happens, but then again Farming Simulator and Truck Simulators are ones that have chosen easy route.

BeamNG way would be set some parameter to certain node and when temperature goes above set, then do stuff, but that stuff would be researched so that it would have scientific basis etc.

It is not easy road they have chosen and surely it will have some things left not explored, but complexity behind those aspect is not showing up too well.

Also there probably is lot of aspect that has been explored, but nothing is shared, for example more complex bus routes, there is my thread in ideas forum about that, they did tests, but how much work it would of been to make to work was too much. There is lot of work like that which is not seen in development.

They might have some test done for fire and found out it being not feasible, they might have tried very hard to get that to work, but as there is not knowing of such, impressions easily end up bit off.

Scratches and fire might have partly same reasons why not, I think with scratches it was something to do with layers, but it is long time since I read post about that, so I might remember wrong.

Maybe one thing that would work to some extend would be if developers would share fails, attempts to make something work like busroutes, but that eventually were impossible.

I can definitely see where your coming from, but that is just stupid. If water can damage a cars components, why can't fire? Also, you never explained how fire is good as is, I would love to know.

How am I not calm? Can I not voice my opinion? Can we not handle a simple discussion? I never said anything that personally attacked anyone. This literally proves that we're not mature enough to have a simple conversation.

Back on track now, this game is built upon realism, fire is not realistic. @Nathan24™'s point is valid, but I definitely don't see how a game build upon realism favors more vehicles over a crucial component to gameplay. The fire isn't good as is, it's literally just a cosmetic.

I feel like we're focusing too much on quite useless arcade elements of the game instead of the extremely vital physics portion of the game.

I agree that the fire could be way more realistic but i think most ppl here dont consider superrealistic fire as a crucial component for a car sim. If one wanted realism on that level then why not make fuel more realistic in the way that you need to refill it at a gas station, or repair the car at a garage/shop. Theres imo plenty of other things on that level of realism that could be done, if asked for.

Imo to get more momentum for BNG id say it needs volume in cars, maps (or a large diverse map) but even more so tasks such as career, quick play, maybe evolve the garage bit further in purpose of repairs when in career mode or a longer race career, upgrading the car and so on.

I do agree, this game doesn't have to be "hyper realistic", but a simple change to fire, such as it breaking the electronics, thus shutting off the car would definitely help this game be more of a realistic simulator. I can certainly see where you're coming from though.

Personally I would love to see improvements to fire damage, I definitely agree that the current system feels odd. However, I don’t see why everyone is talking like content and fire damage are mutually exclusive. I highly doubt the vehicle artists would be pulled from making vehicles to focus on fire physics, I assume that would fall to the hands of another “department”. With 40-something employees I am sure there is enough people that they can spare a person or two for fire physics.

As for all the hate that the content is getting because it’s being “focused” on instead of improving mechanics... Why?.. Content is what keeps the majority of the player base coming back. Judging by the fact that all of us care enough to be on the forums, most people on this thread probably would prefer physics improvements over content, but we are not representative of the majority of paying customers. Official will keep a lot of the fan base coming back while recourses are invested in ensuring those mechanics are good quality when they are ready to be released. Career mode with our current limited content library would be incredibly dull.

Also, why are people both on here and the YouTube video comments acting like the track builder takes away from the physics? The physics engine hasn’t changed and a lot of people enjoy hot lapping with realistic physics on some crazy tracks. I think I have mentioned this every time I commented on this thread and I really don’t understand the hate. It’s like people want the finished game but hate on the little steps to get there...

The track builder definitely doesn't have anything to do with physics, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of us would love to have improvements to the core game rather than have a ton of arcade stuff thrown at us. A lot of us came here for a realistic, fun car game, not some Burnout type game. If the fuel system/fire system is revamped, it opens the door to so many new opportunities for the game to improve on. It would be able to build a foundation for many other features to be implemented. After all this is reworked, then arcade stuff could be implemented. In result, this game would practically be perfect.

Hmm...what would give more for us to do in the game? A total new vehicle and map with new configs and more places to play?
Or a bit more added to fire damage that someone would only love for a day's time of playing and forget about often.

    o_O

Ehh, development's slow enough. Let's ask for something that'll stay relevant for a week atleast.

The crisis of BeamNG, being a game and being the most detailed car simulator to date at the same time. Both sides must be satisfied.

I honestly think that there is a realism line for sales. Not many people want to play FSX on MAXIMUM REALISM ON VATSIM besides the most hardcore of the harcore.

Making the game very realistic may need to be an option.

What impacts the gameplay more - just another car many people won't even use that often or a functional fire system that's always in effect, no matter what vehicle, map or scenario you are using?

    • cancel all the cars and maps
    • scrap Italy and the AB
    • fire gabester
    • focus exclusively on physics and graphics
    • let the community make the content
    • fuck all that, because 9/10 mods suck, the official cars are freaking awesome, the graphics aren't bad, and the physics are already best-in-class
UPDATE: To all you people who thought I was being serious (and failed to read the last point,) you have all been got. This was such blatant satire, an obvious strawman of a position with which I disagree. I'll bet you think InfoWars is real news, or that the Earth is flat.

I beg to differ, the graphics look like they're from 2012. I never stated to cancel the AB car and Italy, I'm saying that I think that more focus should be put onto fire simulation and base game improvements.
