Okay, so about a month ago, BeamNG just started lagging when I went to go play it. It was running perfectly fine the day before on all default settings. Since then, what I have done is that:

. Ran CCleaner on a daily basis
. Run Webroot SecureAnywhere scan on a daily basis
. Installed Windows Updates three times
. Installed latest updates to my Nvidia GeForce card
    . Deleted all installer files
. Cleaned out my downloads folder
. Closed out all other programs
. Emptied the cache on Google Chrome
    . Ran Webroot System Analyzer

Unfortunately, none of this solved the problem. If you want to know my statistics for my computer:

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80 GHz, 2.40 GHz
Installed memory ram: 8.00 GB (7.89 usable)
System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x-64-based processor
    Computer: ASUS Laptop
    Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 745M

Please help as I really want to play BeamNG Drive the way that it was supposed to run WITHOUT having to downgrade the graphics in the game.

Sorry to hear that. If you've done all of that, you can do some last things to help:

-Try turning off PostFX at the main menu options in Beamng

    -Try force updating the game

If all else fails, downgrade the graphics settings

    Hope this helps!

Sounds like your power plan got changed at some point. Set it to maximum performance if it isn't. There was a user here whose i5 4670 wasn't going over 850 MHz because his computer's power consumption plan had changed itself to eco.

How do you force update the game?

    - - - Updated - - -

I changed it to Balanced, and plugged in my laptop. How do you set it to max performance?

Run update.exe in the folder the game was installed in (usually C:\Users\ <your user name here> \AppData\Local\BeamNG). It may have been renamed update.exe.old at some point in which case you just rename it update.exe again.
The same way you set it to balanced, just instead of clicking balanced on the power plan screen you click high performance.....

Sometimes it's hidden under a dropdown menu beneath the checkboxes labeled "Additional Power Plans..." or something similar.

Press the Windows Key and X. It opens up the Mobility Center, and it has High Performance there. You can also change it in the Control Panel, but I love to use the Mobility Center. :D

actually, on windows 8, the windows key + x opens a menu (as shown below), however, they can access the power options from there:

    edit(2).png

(only stating this, as the op didn't include operating system, so this is listed in case he's on windows 8)

Will it damage the file if I rename it?

Not at all. Windows decides what to do with a file based on the file extension which is the part after the "." In the case of .exe it will recognise it as a programming to run, in the case of .old it has no idea what to do so prompts you what programming to open it with. For whatever reason (and there are genuine reasons for this) the beamng update.exe renames itself update.exe.old and windows won't run it, easiest (and not only) way to run it again is just rename it back to update.exe
