FPS drop when plugged in...

Hi there, when I am playing on battery and any map I usually get about 27 FPS but when I plug in my power cord (using a laptop) it drops to 6 FPS! has anyone else had this problem? it's quite weird.

Sounds like an incorrect power plan. Is your battery configured to be Balanced, Low Power, or High Performance when plugged in?

 

They are both set to High performance, That's why it's so weird.

also sorry for the bump, I didn't know that I hadn't responded... But I still have the problem.

 

I have the opposite problem...my computer slows down when unplugged.

 

That's Windows downclocking all your components to save battery and perfectly normal. That can be changed in Windows settings pretty easily. What's happening to OP is bizarre. OP should download CPU Z and GPU Z and look for differences in their readouts when plugged in/unplugged to try and narrow down the problem, though my vote is currently with logoster in thinking it's a power plan gone awry.

But I still need help with this... it's quite annoying.. Because I can only play the game for like 1 hour then the battery dies..

 

Play for an hour, then plug in.

Also, don't be someone who yells at people for bumping, if you do it yourself too.

 

Try plugging it in without the battery, it might be forcefully lowering component power so that the battery can charge faster/more efficiently (Stops you from using as much battery juice so that it actually charges).

 

If it's a cheaper laptop it might be throttling to keep temps down during charging. I've seen some that can't charge and work at the same time. They get too hot.

 

I've noticed alot of laptops seem to use a linear power supply in their charge circuitry, they do get really warm, warm enough to trigger the throttling on some laptops. I dont get why more laptops dont just use a switchmode power supply with filter caps for ripple.

I experience the opposite, which I know is normal, that the laptop throttles (and DC's to !!!800 MHz!!!) when unplugged, but because that is how I set my power plan...I have never heard of such a thing. Check your power supply box on the cord and see if that puppy gets really hot, that may be causing it...I had to replace my powerbox cord because as soon as I would plug the laptop in, it would work fine for avbout 5 - 10 minutes, then the laptop would throttle down a LOT, and after some cursing and googleing, I found that the power brick was causing the laptop to throttle. Does your laptop throttle after a few minutes of being plugged in, or does it throttle as SOON as you plug it in?

 

Yes I know not to bump threads, but if you notice, this is MY thread and it hasn't been solved yet.

Also I haven't yelled at people for bumping threads for a while I'm trying to be a bit nicer on these forums.

I would rather not play for an hour then plug in, because it still causes the lag. I'm trying to figure out how to make not laggy while I playing while it's plugged in.

Check in the advanced settings for each powerplan that it isnt set to throttle when on charge, come across that before
