    I've been teasing the existence of this truck for awhile now, I think most of you have seen it and are wondering what it is. In my typical fashion, I don't start a thread until at-least 25% of the vehicle's in game, and given a good percentage is in game, it's time to make a thread for it.

    screenshot_00114.png

    This was originally a Blender doodle of mine, experimenting with making a vehicle without any blueprints. The creation is thus, fictional and a work of my imagination.

    screenshot_00049.png
    It's a late 20s to early 30s (With a commercial run through to 1941,) 6 wheeled truck, primarily aimed at commercial and industrial use.

    The vehicle measures in to be similar in size to the Model A and AA, and features body design inspiration from the Model A and other contemporary automobiles of the period.
    While somewhat small compared to more modern trucks, it's certainly not incapable of the work it'd be expected to do at the time.

    The front axle is inspired by the Ford Model T and Model A, a transverse leafspring sprung dead axle. The rear axles are more conventionally sprung, with 2 parallel semi-eliptical leafsprings.

    screenshot_00060.png

    The truck's powered by either your choice of a wimpy i4 or an i6 (Horsepower and torque figures not available yet.)

    This comes with a 4 speed manual, and in later commercial models an additional range box, for improved hauling capabilities. Gear ratios vary according to model.

    The vehicle won't feature shock absorbers or dampers, instead taking advantage of the natural dampening effects of leaf springs. Expect a stiff and unstable ride quality as it also has extremely stiff leaf springs.
    Later mid 30s to 1941 commercial models may feature some dampening mechanisms

    Top speed will be around 45 MPH in base configuration, 30 MPH for first tier of commercial models, and less than 20 for configurations destined to haul stuff.

    I'm still modeling quite a bit of stuff, so expect to see more new parts, additions, and other things in future posts.

    The Radiator is correctly modeled, it's just not entirely in game yet. The engine is also obviously a placeholder.

    Percentages;

    Model; 80% (Plenty already modeled, plenty left to model.)
    JBeam; 60%
    Textures; 50% (Some stuff is textured, obviously most of it isn't
    UVs; 80%

    Total complete; N/A% (Uncertain at this stage.)

    I also need some brand and name ideas given this doesn't fit any of the existing official vehicle brands. However;

    Spamming the thread with name suggestions, other "Suggestions", or anything non-constructive or non-contributing, will result in your posts being reported and possibly deleted for spam and shitposting.

    Please instead message me any ideas you might have instead; You will be credited for any used contributions.

    Also, Please refrain from asking for a release date or betas; There won't be any public betas, nor will I give a release date. All betas will be private if there are any, and the release will be FINAL.

    Post away ;)

    Looks interesting. I have no doubt this will be another good mod from you.

    As for name suggestions, I'd call it something like Type or Model with either a letter or a number, since a lot of vehicles back in the day followed the trend, like Ford and Duesenberg to name a few.

    I hope my suggestion doesn't count as anything in the red text. Sorry if it does. :(

    Saying as it's of the time period, would a flathead inspired V8 be an idea?

    I was personally thinking something among the lines of "Gavril Truck Co. Model C, Type A - Type H", with a variety of builds taking advantage of the chassis just like the D series, Roamer, and H series all share components with one another as for they're basically on the same platform. However, I'm still uncertain of how to go about naming it. I'm sure a good idea will roll along, however posting a ton of name ideas here will simply clog up the thread, and no one likes that.

    Thanks for the compliment on the model, it's definitely one of my favorites so far. It's a bit unconventional looking for trucks of the period, much so that it almost fits right in. The wide engine bay will be able to fit some decently sized engines. Originally I modeled it to take a V8, however atv_123 suggested it wouldn't be very practical for a truck in this time period, given the "V" engines were still somewhat of a novelty item. For later model trucks, I might add one in.

    I didn't ask for reference images? :confused: I already found my fair share of them; They're practically everywhere.

    I used several trucks from the time period as references, not just the Model T and Model A. I pulled some visual cues from them, sure, but I pulled them from all sorts of trucks too, whether it be a small thing or a large thing. I pulled stuff from Diamond trucks, Mack trucks, I pulled interior detailing from a Chevrolet, etc.

    I also am experimenting with an all metal body. This would be extremely uncommon at the time, given most vehicles used a wooden frame that the metal bodywork would mount to. Theoretically this sort of all-metal assembly would be possible with existing technology of the time, however I'm unaware of any deployments of this, so this is certainly subject to change depending on future determinations as I go with this project.

    Not period correct.

    MisterKenneth made a good point; Most of the time these old trucks didn't have fancy names; They usually had very simple identifiers for names instead of someething elaborate; Model, Type, Build, Etc... These were seen as tools, equipment, machinery; Luxury items that aren't solely luxury items as they have become nowadays. You bought it for work. Not for taking your kids to school or to listen to the exhaust or whatever dumb thing we do today with our cars. Hell in most places you still saw horses quite often. Roads weren't always paved, and in some cases were treatcherous, especially in the mountains.

    My sole problem with picking a name is really down to picking a fictional company name (Branding) and deciding how to "Inventory" it in the fashion that old horseless carriage manufacturers would.

    Model looks good except for the fenders and the grill.

    I'm gonna assume the fenders are WIP. The grill is very wide, giving it a pig nose look.
    If you decided to keep it you can nickname the truck "the pig nose".

    Finally something that isn't a crap post:p

    The "Pig nose" look was both unintentional and intentional at the same time. I have kept it, even though it does look a tad bit wonky. For better or for worse, this variant will stay in. Making it look narrower would be challenging, since the body work and radiator all rest on top of the frame, which is also a bit wide; These are both already UV'd. This came from a mere modeling mistsake, but it should allow for a wider V8 engine when I get around to making that. And I think it's unique.

    Again, this thing was designed mostly in my head, there are some things I might have missed, however everything mechanically about this should be as close as possible to period correct.

    The fenders, are just there for purpose; No artistic merit really, hence why they're ugly and boxy. The truck could do without them even;

    screenshot_00139.png

    All I'd need is to make separate running boards so you could climb into this (It's got quite the ride height in comparison to other vehicles of the time.)

    (Don't mind the fact the engine mysteriously got textures :p I forgot to change the engine material names in Blender, so I loaded the Barstow and now they're magically there.Oh well, I'm making period correct engine models anyway, that engine block will soon be bye-bye ;) )

    I have a set of more detailed and curved fenders modeled, but they IMO take away from the utilitarian styling I was going for. I'll UV map them later and put them in to try them out in game, just so we can see how they look.

    The Radiator also isn't entirely in-game yet. The actual radiator portion (Behind the grille bars and thin framing,) is modeled but not in-game yet. When that's in-game it should help with the weird looking nature of the grille. If not then I can add a few more bars to the grille, which should help some.

    I'll definitely consider the nickname though, it's definitely something that'd be period correct (Look at the old Mack trucks for instance.)

    Who would name a 20's truck "Pignose?" That sounds too weird for a truck especially from that era. What about a more realistic name like "TorqueWagon" instead? Also, my apologies is my post counts as a crap-post. :)
    unless if "Pignose" is not the actual name but just the nickname I'm fine with it

    Just a fair warning everyone, post with caution; Think before you post here in my thread. Be respectful, especially towards what I stated in red text in the OP. If you don't have anything worth posting, move along. ;)
    Thank you!

    Pignose, in the way it was suggested, would be a nickname, just like the Mack AC had the nickname of Bulldog because of its quite unusual hood design. The actual name probably will be something the likes of "(Brand name) Model(Letter/Number) Type (Letter/Number)"

    I believe I could actually make an AC style hood for this that'd help with the wideness factor, we'll see if I do that or not.

    So for instance, an example vehicle name would be named "Gavril Truck Company Model 1 Type A", and "Pignose" would be used somewhere less prominent like a configuration description or at the end of the actual name in the vehicle selector, since it's not a true factory given name.

    Maybe in one of the configs, the bed would be filled with packs of beer?

    ...or maybe a dump truck like this:

    ...and? You know he's going to add more parts, and those "heavy duty" rear wheels could be one of those parts.

    Extra beds were on the list of planned things.Right now the simple "Box" is on there atm. I have plans for a variety of upfits for the rear.

    Skins might also be planned, I'll have to see what all ends up needing to be skinned at the end of the modeling side of things.

    Speaking of which;

    Already made, just got to Jbeam and put the duallies in game. They'll be an extra part for some configs.

    Well, that's pretty neat! Nice to hear how the duallies are already modeled, so I was correct about it being one of those additional parts surprisingly.
