Horsepower is meaningless when you're talking about diesel engines if you don't include how much torque it has. And those "weak" inline 4's are likely diesel engines which typically make a lot more torque than horsepower. Gearing is also a pretty important factor as well.
Ehh... it mostly depends on the gearing... if the engine revs higher, then you just gear it lower to compensate. Case and point... It might not be fast, but with enough gearing, you could make a Hummer pull a 20,000lb trailer with nothing more than a hair dryer motor. Having said that though... keep in mind, the bear minimum that these things could hit at any given time was about 55 mph on the highway, so any kind of swap that wouldn't even net you that much would be kinda pointless.
this is kind of a minor nitpick, but maybe change up the grille and hood intake a tiny bit to make it less hummer like since it isn't supposed to be a hummer anymore
No, its not a nitpick... you do make a good point. Perhaps... if I get around to it I (or Sithhy) might make one... perhaps like this thing. This is the Dongfeng Mengshi... basically the Chinese Hummer. I personally prefer the Hummer H1 look (as I believe Sithhy does as well) thus why we did it... but I did make the hood totally modular, so every part can be changed on it from just the radiator vent on top to the entire hood. So it wouldn't be hard to do at all. Whether WE will do it, I don't know... but it wouldn't be hard to do after the fact... Besides, I don't know if I am that creative to come up with a new hood design that is totally one off.... I have been around these things so many years, I feel like it would always come out looking like an official Hummer product.
oh wow, i was thinking more of that japanese toyota hummer thing but this front end looks a whole lot more agressive than that or even the original hummer if you care for my opinion
I can't wait to convert petrol into a lot of noise and... Is it at 30 mph yet? Yes? Ooooh maybe it'll hit 50! IT HIT 50 YES! Oh, it's not accelerating anymore.
Technically speaking, the first ones were limited to 68mph, or about 110kph... So yeah... not very high
Thinking about it, I wonder if BeamNG's electric traction control system or whatever it is has provisions for you to electronically limit a car's top speed, or if you just have to limit it using gear ratios and diff ratios.
I mean... I don't know, but I am not too worried... technically speaking I think the gear ratios would run out at 74mph in those early models, but... seeing as they are a barn door that weighs 6,000+lbs (if carrying nothing might I add) being propelled by a 150HP engine... I really don't think the limiter was necessary
The limiter was necessary as a mental reminder to the troops not to drive those things like a normal car. It's entirely possible to flip one of these things over if you go off the road and into sand by accident. If you're accelerating and then it suddenly stops accelerating, then it's a gentle reminder that it's not going to behave like a proper car.
5th snorkel is done... Just mainly needs intercooler tubes for the V8 engine(s) After that, it can go off to texturing
