What is the most unreliable car you have ever had?

I can't think of a single car for 250 quid that wouldn't be a steaming pile of shite. Of course you'll be buying a lemon at that price range :/

Most 205 owners here have no real problems with these cars, same with the 1st gen Renault Clios. Dead reliable.
It's worth keeping in mind that in Portugal we don't have the same awful weather that is known to ruin cars in the UK.

If I had to guess, super cheapo cars + british weather = trash in almost all circumstances

I'll bite:

I've been fortunate enough to not have any undeniably and horrendously unreliable cars. My parents not so much.

If I were to choose an "unreliable" car I owned, it'd be my current one (2006 Ford Mustang). Clutch for maintenance, and a battery that left me stranded in New Jersey (that battery was 7 years old, so I wan't surprised), and that's all. It's current issues are from being wrecked a couple months back, so I don't count them.

The Corolla of Doom did have brake issues that never ceased, though...

 

In Poland, they disappeared anyway.

Because with the depreciation an old French car gets, they inevitably ended up in the hands of people who have to save up for an oil change.

These people drove around with broken non-essential things, until an essential thing broke. Then they went to the junkyard, sold the 205 and either bought a Tico/Cinquecento/Polo Mk2/other penalty box, or just went back to the bus.

My 88' Oldsmobile is the epitome of unreliableness, It is a GM car from the 80's nothing more, nothing less but I love it sooo much and die of sorrow every time that it breaks down. It has cost more money to maintain than it cost NASA to build the space shuttle.

1988 toyota camry, powersteering failed after 11,000 km and evantually the moto blew on high at around 90 kmph, exhaust broke and the radiator fell of countless times

 

Bump but it's still relevant.
After scrapping the steaming pile of shite that the KIA was, (because it's MOT failed and the car was in horrible shape, the whole frame was a rusted pile of rot) we bought a BMW X5 3.0i
As of right now, it's not treated us well.
On the way back we couldn't shut the engine off because the battery was dead... Can't blame on the car though.. Batteries will go dead.
A bit temperamental when starting up.
The LPG fuel system can be a bit... eh... Also based on the fact that very few garages are willing to work on it.
The battery was in the fucking back of the car so we had to take the fuel tank out to get to it.
All of these mishaps in just under a month have cost us £450, which may not seem like much, but for a household that only makes £19,000 a year it's crippling.

 

Ouch. I and my parents never really had unreliable cars. All we own are Toyotas. We have an '09 Highlander and a '99 Sienna still running mostly strong.
Now, if this thread was about lawnmowers I could tell you PLENTY about that...oh boy.

 

Tell me about it, a lawnmower is a moveable object with 4 wheels and a motor, so I'll consider it a car lol

 

lol. are you sure? It's a 15 yr old 40 some in. mower and we have had to replace several parts on it. Yesterday I was mowing my yard with it and the steering went out, the steering gears stripped out. It looked like someone was all over the place in the backyard, it got so bad I had to quit.

Not a car, but my Granda had a Castelgarden Redline 484 mower. It was rusting apart at the seams. I loved it, but it took at least 5 minutes to get started.
Ahh, those were the days...
Then it was replace with some cheap new one.
