A couple of months ago I made the seemingly terrible mistake of trying to mod OMSI 2. At the start I had no idea what I was doing and someone said to download ZIPCruncher (which turned out to be completely pointless) and instantly after that my ZIP files transformed. They changed from the file with a zipper to some weird, blue strip thing which when I double click on, create a new file containing the contents of the ZIP. This is super annoying and if anyone knows what happened I would love to know.

Right click the file -- > 'open with' select 7zip or Winrar (whcihever default you use) and then select 'Always use this app to open .zip files'

My short search on Google seems to suggest that Zip Cruncher is malware...

Its most likely adware. As such, I'd personally recommend running AdwClearner. It's very good at removing adware. So good, actually that I keep it on a flash drive for when I help someone else deal with adware problems. I've seen it remove adware that paid software failed to, many times.

Still sounds bad. Only take advice from people you trust.

I really wouldn’t be surprised. It did nothing. I deleted weeks ago and haven’t had anymore problems with it. I can only hope nothing happens

always do research about what you're installing. try searching it, if nothing pop-ups about it being bad try something like "is [insert program] a virus"
just a simple search showed me it probably isnt safe, and even if it was i wouldnt take chances

I know. I’m usually good with stuff like this. But for some reason I didn’t even think before downloading zipcruncher. I need to be waaaaaaaaaaay more careful.

Malwarebytes does a good job at getting that kind of junk off. Trust me, it works. I have had a lot of experience with stuff like this...(when I was younger.)
