So what do those black boxes actually use youre data? And could it be that if they think youre driving caused your accident they dont pay?
More like they hike your premiums if you don't drive like a grandma. Progressive Insurance is trying to introduce the same stupid thing here in the US; I wonder how long it'll be before it catches on among the same kind of person who already thinks 47 in a 55 is a happy speed. Good thing I don't go through them; my dad was a Marine so I can insure through USAA and they don't pull that garbage.
I pay £1640 for my insurance. If I had a box, it's £2800. With possible safe driving reduction of upto £900 after two years, which would still be £1900 and more than I pay without a box. Insurers in UK hate anyone under 25 having more than a 1.4, and hate actual desirable cars, and hate turbochargers
Basically every countrys insurance works like that but here you have some cars wich are cheap to insurance if they meet certsin criteria for example if you have a car wich usually older people drive and arent as common but not to uncommon then they are somewhat cheap for example the alfa romeo giulia qv would cost 1400 euros per year for a 20 year old driver without ever having owned a car officially on his name and a vw golf with the 1.9l tdi will cost 1600 euros with the same data
They still pay out even if the crash was your fault. Assuming of course that you didn't invalidate your coverage with any undeclared modifications etc. I have heard of insurance companies giving fines to drivers for repeatedly speeding. Then there is the dumb stuff where they have canceled peoples insurance because the boxes have reported false data, such as cars with a 1l engine doing over 100mph due to GPS errors, as well as falsely reporting that people have been driving for several days straight without rest. Generally from what I have heard these black box systems are pretty dumb. Since they aren't very accurate or especially well designed /implemented.
Thats the main reason I'd never have one near my car. In general with all the policies I've looked at even with the most basic packages the cost of a car I'd be buying (£300-1000) would be quite a bit less than a years insurance so I'd be paying less just wrecking one car per year and buying another, its pretty ridiculous. That combined with the massive tax on petrol and diesel and its no wonder so many people aren't even taking driving tests until way into their 20s these days.
School today, and well the cars I was in made it extra-ordinary. Morning: So my grandad takes me to school, he has two Jazzes (2018 and 2007-old one will be my first car). He took the older one for a drive and well it's nice to know it is all working well. What is noticeable is that with the dual spark igniton (DSI) it pulls well at low RPM. So when you are going round the roundabout in 2nd at around 5-10mph you can still accelerate pretty quickly, with the Hyundai and it's 1.2 DOHC VVT etc it will need a clutch slip to wake it up at that speed and gear. Car sounds a bit more coarse than when it was new (obviously) but everything else is good. Everything works etc. Afternoon: So after school on Tuesday I go to maths revision, and well I was walking along the road where the teachers go, and well the head of maths drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 I6 (meaty thing) and down the road he floored it, flying over the speed bumps and the noise was amazing, must have been a sports exhaust (it was proper rumbly and everything) and the smell, it was running rich but wonderful. What a contrast to another teacher's car who slowed down almost to a stop for the speedbump and then stalls it as it was left in 2nd gear going about 1-2mph.
Wow, that's dumb. Hey anyone, can you read this post and still say that having a nanny/ninny state is a good thing? 'Cause I can't.
Might want to ask the same on a different forum I don't think these boxes are useful. Except for companies that like the data maybe...
I mean, the boxes don't have any affiliation to any governance, including police. Are entirely optional, and are run purely as part of a private capitalistic entity. So I don't think they do anything to prove or disprove what you are saying. The boxes are intended to make money. Nothing else.
Nanny state? When these aren't driven by the state but are driven by the very sort of crapitalism that drives your healthcare system?
Can't say I hate the styling. Too much black plastic on the bottom of the front, but with that much vertical space to fill, what else are you gonna put there. As such, the black plastic is acceptable. I would be very interested to see where they would put a front number plate on that if they were to sell them in the UK. Would they put it between the two front "intakes" messing with the styling line, or would they block the bottom intake (which given our climate, would probably be a non issue )
The front looks a bit better than the XT-5, but the rear fails it for me. Those taillights really ruin the car, and the XT-5 in my opinion handled it better.
