Windows 8.1 on my laptop, Windows 10 on my desktop. My laptop's about dead, but 8.1 is just fine. 10 works *most of the time*

Windows 10, but it is a nightmare, like it isn't set it and forget it because if you do then it won't install updates, gets behind in security patches and etc. why it can't do this automatically i don't know, i always have to download windows update fixers from microsoft as the update client doesn't work 90% of the time.
Power management isn't terrible, but isn't good either compared to MacOSX there is still room for improvement. At least they fixed the connected standby bug (where tablets didn't turn off the wifi chip so drained battery really quick).
Speed is pretty good, but RAM compression doesn't do much at all, my mac can compress around 300mb and my red laptop (same 2gb ram) compresses around 40mb.
Drivers are just woeful. Every update (creators, fall creators, anniversary) breaks at least one driver, and sometimes you just can't find a driver for it, you can't update it through windows update manually anymore (that's broken i think) and finding drivers for things like an ambient light sensor is impossible, my red laptop is still missing drivers from anniversary update! No OEM updates have been pushed, no support nothing!
My simple gaming rig hasn't been bad but the USB3.0 PCIE expansion thing has broken, the driver is missing and the manufacturer of the chipset says consult OEM (VIA). Dead end here, so the waiting game starts for a driver to be made for the update. But this is un-acceptable, why does everything break after an update. Microsoft needs to stop breaking drivers or encourage manufacturers to update their drivers for them.
The fact that many tablets still use this OS is bad since there was a HUGE step back from Windows 8 in regards to tablet support, heck for like 2 years the default browser didn't even have a full screen mode. What the hell is happening in Microsoft's software dev team. It needs a vast overhaul! All that tablet mode does is hide away the task bar and make the start menu full screen, no icons get bigger, no buttons get bigger (come on at least in Edge make them bigger for tablet mode).

Windows 7 FTW heh heh... Not going to fix what isn't broken. This has served well having been the same install for over 3 years now and I don't feel like messing with it. I didn't care how FREE the free spying and automatic-jam-up-my-slow-interwebs stuff was. I don't want it.

All my hardware is working as is advertised. This include Beamng.drive content creation uses and my music production hobby of vintage game console and MS-DOS / Amiga / C-64 style computer music.
I don't want to lose features for FREE. I don't want MORE MIGRAINES for FREE.
No thanks. I just read the news, chit-chat and do Beamng.drive and music stuffs and occasionally fire up dos-box for some TANK WARS.

    Oh yeah TAAAANK WARRRRSSS!!!

Windows 10 on my five computers, working perfectly 24/24, never had an issue with it.

A long way from Windows 98 and Millennium, that was another kind of story

My laptop (Latitude E5440 (2015)) had Win. 8.1 Pro. Now has Win. 10 Pro for free!!
    My old dinosaur heat freak

    *ahem* I mean THIS

oh yes... an old Dell Optiplex GX 620. That thing had 32bit Windows XP Professional SP3. Btw, it could heat up a 10x10ft room! My Dad who works in the same room sometimes asked me "Why is it so warm in here?"
I would tell him "Dad, it's my computer. Do you want me to turn it off?"
It would get over 100 C. (80-90 w/ the case open. It had a very poor stock air cooler)
That was just with a Pentium 4 @3.2 GHz! And a midrange AMD GPU for 2005. I will probably eventually gut it and use the case for a sleeper gaming PC.

Pentium 4 was 100+ watts and wasn't incredibly fast. Netburst architecture on those Prescott chips was in it's 2nd or 3rd iteration (Wilamette, Northwood, then Prescott) and was something like 100+ watt or 130 watt or something rediculous (wiki knows more). Compare to now-a-days that processors like i9's are the only thing that go over 100 watts. The AMD Athlon FX at the time would run circles around this processor in most tasks as it was better clock for clock and more power efficient. Thankfully core2duo came by to save the day. Also, you have an Optiplex, the business line, as the regular demensia (home/personal line of computers) line-up blew all the VRM's off all these boards at those temps or less, because they used cheaper motherboards in the Dimensia vs the Optiplex.
Core processors / Core 2 Duo actually was a step back to the Pentium III architecture with newer extensions, less hops (cycles a processor must go through until input becomes output) and more performance per watt, meant a much better environment for applications, and you. Intel totally threw out 'Netburst' pentium 4 style architecture altogether in 05~06.

Play old dos games. You could get a copy of slimmed-down minimalistic linux to run a web browser on the hardware, and still use the internet, but normally, video would be out of the question unless it has a REALLY new video board (AGP slot equipped machines), or it has one of those DVD-video decoder boards like the Creative Media DVD kits (LGR on youtube did coverage of this recently!), then it *might* be able to do some video, but it's very highly doubtful.

With KernelEx installed, it'll do whatever Windows XP can do.

...of course, old dos game, like Stunts, Indycar, F-15 Strike Eagle, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Quarantine, so many epic games and the 3dfx Voodoo or ATI Rage 3D graphic cards! I remember buying a Creative Labs card with Dolby surround to build a home cinema at home! it was lot of fun!
