I agree with the fascia thing. I would put the Tacoma somewhere in the middle of the two groups for that reason, but closer to the American side.

Well, since this is a discussion about pickups, I am glad to see that it hasn't broken out into an all out Ford vs Chevy vs GMC vs Dodge war... granted that is probably because half of you aren't Americans (thank heavens for that) and either see them as all the same (or very similar) or, if you do have a strong opinion about them, are capable of keeping it civilized.

I only bring that up because while I was at the store yesterday, I had to try and help break up a fight between two guys that were basically in an all out war because they both had lifted trucks (one was a Chevy and one was a Dodge) and were hell bent that their brand was better. What actually started the argument I have no idea, but there was actually blood spilt and the cops came a little later... all I was there for was some bananas and a gallon of milk... I didn't sign up for that.

As far as I am concerned on the whole topic though, I totally agree with the two styles of truck thing. There is definitely the everywhere truck that is widely accepted by... well... practically everywhere as an acceptable daily runabout that just so happens to have the convenience of a 6 ft (usually) bed that can be... well... convenient.

Accepted everywhere except here that is... Here in America, if you're not a soccer (football everywhere else) Mom, then it is totally unacceptable to drive anything in between a normal 4 door car or a big 8ft bed truck with a fire breathing V8. Anything in between and you're a soccer Mom threw and threw. Oh, you drive a Honda Ridgeline? Where do you get your nails done at?

Honestly, it drives me insane... I mean, I like big trucks as much as the next guy, but come on... Your not gonna even be seen in the same parking lot as a GMC just because you saw one break down in a movie once when you were 7? Us Americans are idiots I swear...

That kind of prejudices isn't limited to America. For example, people in post-USSR countries have them towards any car that's not a sedan (exception: crossovers and SUVs are considered cool by non-car people across the globe). The origins of it can summed up using a popular meme: "You see Ivan, when drive sedan, looking like KGB agent". Other car owners are thought of as following:
    Hatchback- faggot
    Wagon- yokel farmer
    Minivan- loser dad or mom
These prejudices have almost disappeared in the Baltic States, but are still very strong in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhistan etc. Similar "sedan over anything" attitude can also be observed in China.

The whole brand thing with trucks just boggles my mind. I don't understand why they're so hostile to each other, at the end of the day it should be light-hearted fun, not breaking into actual fights.

Funny how different the truck scene here, it is very unusual for a soccer mom to be driving a pickup truck, it's more leaned towards the males and specially the young ones.
The GM pickup trucks and the imported Tundra (weirdly Toyota dealerships never sold them here) are most popular ones followed way in the by Dodge.
Most of the GM and Tundra mainly bought for desert offroading and racing, and eventually some end up as a prerunner.
Oh yeah the brand war only happens in social media thank god...

That isn't just a American or a truck thing, it's the same with everything like PlayStation Vs Xbox, or Apple Vs Android.

Oh yeah... that's another good point. You own an apple you're a rich snob, you own an android your an annoying hipster. You own a console then your just a dirty console peasant, build your own gaming PC and your a rich nerd.

I guess any way you look at it from just about any direction your looked down upon by someone. I guess that's why I try to blur all lines with almost everything I do ;)

I'd say the Colorado has gained popularity among adults, but I think the Ridgeline is just too Honda to be accepted sadly. Of course for young people it's bigger truck = better. Even for girls here in Alabama, trucks are the thing.

Yeah, its the same up here... also add in the louder the better as well. I dunno about the whole girl thing though, I never had any girls really want anything to do with me and my old truck... wait... wasn't loud... no lift kit... no V8... ahh... that's what it was wasn't it... knew it.

It's actually AWD, it only operates as FWD "under normal driving conditions" and when the front wheels start to lose traction, the rear differential kicks in. It's Honda's way of dealing it, and the Ridgeline itself isn't really a "proper" pickup truck anyway, just something for people who don't really need a truck, but it's there when they really need it. Why? Because that's Honda's way in answering that question.

That's generally what the Ford Ranger is used for in Australia.

I'm saying the girls have trucks too. The biggest truck owned by someone I know is owned by a 4'11" girl. She shames guys who brag about their trucks and it's amazing

Here, most girls drive City Handbags. Like the Lancia Ypsilon:

    Incidentally, I do, too.

Seems you've all stumbled onto the reason I think Chevrolet has the worst fan club of anything.

While I tend to like GM and dislike Ford as well, I'm not about to bite the ears off anyone who tries to tell me that they likes Ford, I've even owned a few (Albeit older) Fords.

And when I was in High school it seemed that alot of the girls I knew drove Mustangs and Camaros or small SUV's like Ford Escapes and Honda Pilots, save for the few that were actually interested in vehicles who usually had trucks, for example a friend of mine was going out with a girl who was maybe all of 5'2", and had a crewcab shortbed Super Duty Ford that had a 6 inch lift and 37's, as well as a straight piped V10.
