On what grounds? Under what basis do you stake this claim? Fallout 3 has an even shakier story than 4, with even fewer choices and outcomes, and the crappiness of the engine can't even save it like FO4's gameplay can. I'll admit, generally, the locale and side quests have more heart in them than Fallout 4, but certainly not New Vegas.
Maybe he liked the darker atmosphere better? I admit, that was one of the best things about Fallout 3
I can't really agree that 3 has a "darker" atmosphere than New Vegas, unless you mean literally darker because everything is green.
I think that's what I prefer over NV, if anything. I just don't enjoy the scenery in NV as much as in 3, even though you could probably argue that NV just has more scenery. I still prefer NV over 3, and 4 though. 4 is a pretty good game, and I could probably go back and play it for another 50 hours. But I don't think it's the greatest Fallout game. I don't really know how to explain it, but that makes sense in my head. As for 3, even though there's choices and whatnot, I always find myself doing the same thing every single playthrough. It's either just me, or the game just doesn't seem to change much regardless on what you do. In NV, I always have a different experience, even if it alittle samey at the beginning. It just ends up being much more enjoyable than 3 after the first playthrough
I don't have ambient music turned on. It's a distraction. I found Fallout 3 so dreadfully boring I've never actually finished it. I got pretty close to the end, got bored, tried point lookout, hated it, tried the alien DLC, really hated it, didn't finish it, and never played again. Everything was just so formulaic and samey I just couldn't take it. 3 is easily worse than 4, both as a fallout and a game in general.
Each to their own I guess. I got it alittle off full price in some sale, and I'd say I got my money's worth. Would I get the next Fallout game if it was in the same style as 4 though? Probably not, unless I got it really cheap. I'm looking for an RPG when I'm playing Fallout. Not Call of Duty with levels
Mediocre story, less side quests than in 3, unnessecarry and annoying crafting/Settlement mechanics, no replay value (there are 2 whole endings, wow), they ditched many great things out of NV, main character having a voice, they simpified nearly everything to make the game more accessable..... could name more but I don't have all the time in the world "It just works", nothing less but also nothing more...
I couldn't get into the settlement thing. It's just not for me, and I'm not that creative when it comes to building stuff like that. Luckily you can pretty much just dabble in it when they first introduce it, then just ignore it. It isn't a perfect solution though... I wasn't for the voice acting for my character either. It was done really well, don't get me wrong. But I lost alot of the connection I had with my character in other games. I was playing a character, but it wasn't my character. I'm curious as to how modders got around it if they made any extra quests with dialog. That was popular in the previous games, and you could just type out the chat options then. Do they just disable the voice acting for it? Because I can't see much else they can do...
I mean, that's just simply not true. Fallout 4 has 33 side quests, Fallout 3 has 18. I feel "find my dad and turn on the water filter for some reason" is far less compelling than "find my son and kill the bastard that shot my wife", but I guess that's up to opinion. Fallout 3 has two whole endings, and neither effect the story continuation DLC in any major fashion, and have an even smaller visual/gameplay effect on the world than Fallout 4 endings offer. I clearly agree that New Vegas is superior to both 3 and 4, so whatever. I don't feel like a voiced protagonist is what killed the game. I can take it or leave it. They certainly used a voiced protagonist as an excuse to simplify the dialogue system along with accessibility for consoles, sure. It didn't have to be that way. I like building and crafting things, expanding the gun modding system was great, and being able to make your own base was great. Sue me.
