    Hello,

I recently programmed a 'CVT' VarioSpeed transmission on the RoR forums. I'm not sure if BeamNG uses the same codes for transmission and engine as in RoR, but if yes, the VarioSpeed transmission could be added.

Here is a link to the thread on the RoR forums: http://www.rigsofrods.com/threads/102512-Variospeed-CVT-Transmission-for-BMW-E36-and-other!

I guess it would be a good addition to some Japanese cars (most of the automatic transmissions in Japanese cars are CVT).

Let me know what you think.

    Sincerely

I'm not saying this wouldn't be cool or anything, but i hate cvt. It takes all of the fun out of burying the pedal. The rpm just stays the same, no fun. sorry if that sounded mean or anything, I didn't mean it to.

CVT is good for some applications, but bad for others. Personally I hate it too, but it would be a nice feature to have in the base in my opinion.
Oh and, a REAL CVT would be nice.

Hehe, I know a lot of people hate a CVT :)
Personally, I prefer a manual of a 'classic' automatic, but that is offtopic.

However, it is indeed about the addition to the game. I'm willing to program it if the developers think it would be a good addition.

Even if the devs don't add it, I'm sure it won't be too hard to make with this new lua. Although, maybe, I don't know if you can switch the ratios on the fly. heh.

Yep, if BeamNG also uses .truck files (I guess it will), then I?ll give it a try when the game/beta comes out!

Well there is going to be parts, CVT could be one of them.

It could probably be coded in Lua in about 10 minutes.

Okay, that's cool, I guess that Lua is the sourcecode.

No, Lua is the scripting language with which most of the logic is implemented. The source code is in C++ (and will not be editable)

Okay. Will cars be moddable by notepad files (like RoR). I don't mean optical modding -most of the times ugly-, but adjusting gear ratios and torquecurves etc.

AFAIK, everything other than the actual engine will be Lua, therefore editable, Lua in notepad++ is very nice with the syntax highlighting available.

This is just a slipping clutch. Real cvt varies gear ratio dependent on the input and output torque.

I know. It simulates a CVT (quite well after some fine-tuning), because programming a real CVT (with belts and stuff) would be quite hard for me. Someone on RoR forums did that but he kept it private and you had to implement it in RoR's sourcecode.

Well, I too like manual gearboxes best (I drive stick). I like an automatic transmission too, in a larger car. Like a Nissan Maxima or a Toyota Camry.
