Hello all, before i spend a ton of time on my bus, i need to know how to jbeam the engine, wheels and axles. There isn't anything on the wiki for these components (except for hubwheels, but thats confusing) if anyone could help explain i would love it. thanks, narwhal2 - - - Updated - - - can anyone please help????
Was going to ask these same questions, but then I saw your post. Many think most of the folks here are RoR "old-timers" (which they're not, btw), but even still, the RoR Wiki combined with the Wiki here still don't cover all of the necessary information you need to successfully build a node/beam structure for a vehicle. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. I know there’s a mentality of not “dumbing-it-down”, but for those of us who are way past that, we still need good documentation. Otherwise, you’ll have a lot of cancelled projects, with only a select few creating add-on content. Don’t think I want to be spoon-fed. I’ve searched, dug, poked, experimented, and the like, but some things just aren’t documented, and don’t make sense. I’ve stopped doing much work on my 3D model until I can at least get the frame/wheels/suspension/engine in-game with basic functionality.
It wasn't meant to be sarcastic, but some will probably see it as me whining and being sarcastic, and not appreciative of the info that has already been provided. That's just the way some folks are. I'm trying to do my part to help the community (creating content, Blender script), and will continue to do so. Hopefully someone can start some more detailed documentation regarding the more obtuse settings inside of a .jbeam file.
Just put it there as an indication to anyone reading it, who thought it was sarcastic, to jump out of that mindset. So, that line alone might have a little sarcasm attached to it. But, let's not focus on whether it was sarcastic or not. Let's please focus on getting some things clearly documented for those trying to create quality add-ons for the community...
I completely agree. The number of existing cancelled projects is a clear sign that folks don't know how to put jBeam files together and quickly get overwhelmed. I've actually got two finished models (mesh and textures) waiting on JBeam files, just haven't started threads cause I don't wanna be another "sorry I cancelled cause of no jBeam" guy. I think the solution will ultimately be a good utility program that can build the jBeam for you, but good documentation would be a solid start.
I did try it and I didn't like it, it doesn't really solve the issue of "I want to build a vehicle completely from scratch." Really solid editor, though. My opinion, of course.
