That one time when I'm making a BeamNG.drive map and Windows Update interrupted my work... And I didn't even have the chance to save it...
So today has been somewhat interesting for me. (wiring not final and as such a little messy) Yesterday their was a set of speakers on amazon that were small enough to fit under my screens at a price small enough to not make me want to cry. So I now have the Logitech Z5500 plugged into the rear and sub/centre output on my soundcard, with the Kanto YU2's plugged into the front output, then the sound card is controlling the crossover frequency stuff. Its a bit of a pain having two separate volume dials (might set them to a permanent higher level and control volume in windows which isn't as nice a remote control) but there is a fairly nice upgrade in audio quality. The volumes do need to be matched properly though with the crossover set correctly otherwise everything sounds a bit weird. For a bit of fun I also put the Denon Envaya Mini into see what things sounded like with it handling the left and right channels, it has absolutely no right to sound anywhere near as good as it does.That isn't to say its equal to either the Logitechs or Kanto's, It sounded way too dark cause the crossover was set for the new speakers. Surprisingly the Envaya Mini has more bass despite being considerably smaller, I guess that is the Envaya's fancy DSP for you... For songs with delicate female vocals like "Live your life" by Yuna it did better than the Logitechs (presumably because the speakers are tweeter sized). Still need to get around to fixing the Logitechs though, even if the high pitched noise is reduced by shoving them behind a computer screen. EDIT: I got a recording of the Envaya Mini and Desktop setup. Full recording was done in one take, I amplified both separately to equal peak volume within Audacity. Here is results, Envaya first, desktop second. Microphone capsule was a Primo EM172. I guess when I am living somewhere with space for it I could use the Kanto's as stereo front speakers, then the 5.1 system as everything else to create a 7.1 system. I have never found that 5.1 isn't enough, but I guess 7.1 could be fun to mess with.
BeamNG has another open position... it looks awesome (one of the creative ones). Sadly, I'm not 18 ... but when I'm 18 and a similar position I can fill appears, trust me, I'll be on the first flight to Bremen.
Not sure I would be on the first flight over cause I have no idea how to function in German society, especially without knowing the language, I would feel terrible making random other people speak English in order to communicate with me (at least until the language gets into my head) Not that my main skills are in narrative design anyway.
It's not that hard. It's pretty calm, if you ask me. I've been in the country twice, once in Bremen meeting the devs, the other time visiting Berlin.
