how will they enforce this? This will keep happening, and I bet that some things will change. even better, just make the distribution and usage of "shark cards" illegal, not modding in general. That's why people buy the game, the great community of modders.
Apparently, it's suspected that C* is triggered about their gunrunning scam being released before schedule. So the nuked GTA modding. There goes the largest game modding community in the world. RIP GTA, It's been a long, fun run. But it's over now...
For a minute I thought the title of the thread said that the game was made illegal. I was about to say "well, I ain't all that surprised." Now I'd like to know how they are going to do this?
Whats Gonna happen to youtubers like First30Minutes whos entire job depends on this? Maybe he will take them to court?
Welp, there goes FailRace's Street Race Career videos. That series was amazing, but now it'll have to come to an end SOLELY because C* thinks that modding is a huge detriment to this game. Why, without mods, I'm quite sure that few people would have been ENCOURAGED to have played GTA 5, and anyways, videos like JYWYZ's Fast and Furious remakes (go check them out; they're amazingly realistic) brought in so much cash from fans of the movies. How did anyone at C* NOT think of the repercussions of this? That just blows my mind. If BeamNG didn't have modding, I doubt it would be as popular as it is today. Thank you, BeamNG, for thinking of modding as a way for people to express their love for their game, rather than merely a way to get free stuff.
Best case scenario, Take Two repeals the Cease and desist order. Worse case we wait for someone to build a new tool from the ground up and release it opensource. Take two can't do shit if its open source. Also it really inst Rockstar's doing, Sam Houser has said he wanted to do a lot of things with GTA 5 but he couldn't because Take Two has a muzzle on him. Take two stopped the single player DLC that Rockstar was almost done with, because that is not profitable. You want to fight this? Stop buying sharkcards and other Take Two products, their stock prices have already started falling.
I don't normally go into large, wildly-coloured fonts, but, HOORAY! YAHOO! WHOOPEE! I'm sick of seeing these things in my recommended videos list. So I watched video-game related content and watched a couple of trailers for animated movies. That doesn't mean that I want to watch dozens and dozens of bot-run accounts endlessly posting increasingly pointless copyright-infringements. I just know that someone has been profiting off of the ads for these things, and it warms my heart to see them take a hit.
Off topic, but I'd love to know how those videos are still being successful? Some of them like the ones with Elsa and Spiderman rings all the wrong bells with me.
With Read Dead Redemption 2 coming out it'll be interesting too see if people are still angry about this. GTAV's Steam reviews have already dropped down to mixed, and all of the top reviews are unrelenting in their criticisms. It's weird that neither Rockstar nor TakeTwo have made a statement on this yet though
Sad for them to reject modding, what I think is one of the big points that kept their old (and not) games still being sold and played nowadays ( I remember passing my afternoons modding Vice City.. ) Turning down the people that helped making their games as popular as they are nowadays is certainly not a clever move.. In days where modding is becoming more and more popular, with companies embracing and encouraging modders, that's quite :|
You said it. That's definitely what I like about you guys. While GTA's guys are getting triggered at the idea of mods, you all find something about mods to appreciate and allow them to thrive.
