Going to try out folding later. And all this is running off a 650w psu. Just to show that it can be done and you don't need 8000 jiggawatts for two gpus.

Is it by any chance in a plain grey metal wrapper? Do you happen to know the model? The reason mine can handle this is simply because its a quality unit.

Nope and nope. Turns out it isn't the PSU, but something else pretending to be a PSU issue. It's a rosewill HIVE, not the best, but not bad. I get random shutdowns and hard locks during folding and kerbal space program, while both pull well under 300w. Nothing is overheating, I am sad because I have NO IDEA! *crys
It's been over a week of this crap, and I still have no idea.

Also, I was thinking of making a computer out of these things:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-MicroATX-...id=1385441525&sr=1-1&keywords=fm2+motherboard (maybe a diff mobo. With micro atx fit in a fullsize atx case?)

    http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-AD640KOKHLBOX-Technology-Virtualization/dp/B00CPLGFM4/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1385166892&sr=1-2&keywords=amd+apu

    http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-1600...=UTF8&qid=1385441413&sr=1-1&keywords=ddr3+ram

    http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Series-Watt-CX430/dp/B0092ML1SC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_2

good enough for beamng and some folding?

Could easily be your motherboard going. P55 mobo's are hard to find these days :p

Especially m-atx ones. :\ It could also be my GPU or HDD though. This system is driving me crazy.

@moose Looks ok, but you know me. If you can, go intel or at least FX processor. I have no idea how APU's would fold.

Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects.

Apu's fold decently well, as would any FX. For the gaming side of things an FX processor is just as good as intel and do better in situations with streaming. I used an 8350+990FX for a bit while building one of my friends rigs, I noticed absolutely no difference in day-day or gaming from my i7 3770K. The cpu isn't really the part that games are bound to nowadays, put all available budget left in a good discrete gpu whenever doing a build and you will come out fine. Not to mention the 8350 is 100-130$ cheaper than the intel cpu with equivalent threads. All I'm saying is that people need to stop ragging on something they haven't even had the chance to use having just read some bullshit intel biased benchmarks. Taka a look at this. /endrant

@Moose Yes you can put an m-atx mobo in an atx case, that's what I have done. Also ditch that shitty power supply. Get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-80PL...f=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1385482056&sr=1-10

I wanna try and use my crappy pc to try and fold, just for the heck of it. What would be a good way to make sure my computer doesn't explode?

Just monitor the temps while running it. Check them every once in a while to see if you have any problems, but everything should work just fine :)

I don't know about my PSU (Coolmax 500w) but it doesn't cause any problems and seems to be a fairly good PSU. Even though people report it stop working after a year or so I've had mine for a year (It was my dad's for 2 or so years before that) and it still seems to be going good.

    Started folding now.

I'd fold but it's already warm enough in my room :|

I can open the window but the fans are still loud as hell.

That's what headphones are for. They get rid of the noise from fans. :p
