Hello everyone! This thread is dedicated to cars that you personally like that have a cult of hatred, or nobody else really cares about. For example, I love this one. Dependable, Customizable, and above all sporty. (It comes with the Fairlady Z's engine). What are yours?
Rover 214, I admit Rover had some shocking build quality, but I just adore this car. Many other people that I know in my country (UK) absolutely hate this car. But back when I was younger, we used to own one until it died (Something broke on it and it had to be taken off the road) and I used to spend hours a day sitting on the driveway in the drivers seat pretending to drive it (bear in mind, I was only 6-7yrs old at the time). Personally, if it wasn't for them all having major faults or probably rusted away by now, I'd have one again. EDIT: Just found out the fault we had with our '214, the head gasket blown (this was a VERY common fault with these Rovers). Every time we had to go out anywhere in it, we had to take a couple litres of water to top up the radiator because it leaked. On top of that, every time went out in the cold, the windows would always steam up so quick we couldn't see where we were going, we were literally having to wipe the inside of the windscreen with a cloth to see, it got so bad going down a country road one night, we had to pull over and get someone to pick us up and leave the car until the morning.
I like Rovers of that era too! We had a Nightfire red 800 Vitesse for a few years. Very quick and practical if a little delicate, electrical wise.
Really? I thought everyone were put off by their shoddy build haha, we actually used to have 2 Rovers, we had another one after the 214. A Rover 400, I remember going to a small dealer that my Granddad used to work at. Saw this car and said "Hey, what about this?", the sheer enjoyment I felt when we had it, I remember like it was yesterday. The thing that sealed the deal was the amount of boot (trunk if you're American) space, it was massive, even more if you'd put the rear seats down. This was something we never had before since we used to go for Austin Metro's or Mini's lol.
Da? It has shapes and ride is not so bad, especially on poor road it can outperform a Porsche, you can fit lot of beer on trunk, really a lot, proper RWD layout and they even made an UTE version of it to fit a loads more beer. Those lines and curves really please my eye, sadly those have mostly rusted away, certainly looks better than Miramar and engine likes from turbo. It is nothing like a Lada, there is even space for bigger shoes around pedals, unlike in Lada which you have difficulty of right foot not fitting to gas pedal without pressing brake. Rear seat is very nice and spacious, real poor quality plastic that attempts to look like a leather if my memory is correct. Speedometer and steering wheel are also something bit more interesting than mostly plain ones what usually is put to cars, I think earlier versions had bit more stylish dashboard than this one that is probably quite late model, notice that triangle side window you could open for near draftless ventilation, you don't see that nice feature in cars anymore, also mirrors are no longer in fenders in cars so to see behind you have to look away from where you are going, these old cars were too advanced I guess: Most of the pics from here, not much better pics around what I could see: http://hooniverse.com/2015/10/04/moskvitch-weekend-edition-the-1964-1975-moskvitch-412elite/ Soviet competitor for BMW 1502, they even reverse engineered BMW motor to some extent for this car's engine. I'm sure everyone would want such nice piece of Soviet Luxury instead of modern cars, where snow falls to seat when you open door, such was not an issue with these beauties
American Fire Trucks... Every time I brought them up I'm ignored. EDIT: I've just brought back my truck suggestion. If you could, take a look. It's perfect for the game!
Anything obscure - Daewoo Lanos Also some very early Chinese and Korean cars, especially the obscure brands.
Saturn Ion Redline. It may be FWD, but it's one of the best factory sleepers, and is pretty easy to modify and tune.
Honestly any implication that a car being FWD makes it less sporty/less fun is absolutely insane. You mean to tell me anything with a supercharged twin cam engine, firm suspension, a limited slip diff and a 6 speed manual ISN'T fun to drive?? Personally I'd love to own one of these, especially for that blower whine As for me, the BX, especially the GTI twin cam models. These cars were absolutely amazingly high tech for their time, but most of them seem to be beaters/work horses nowadays.
