Cannot update my game / no mods folder

Attempting to update my version of BeamNG - last played 9/23/2013. There is no "update.exe" in my BeamNG folder, and when I attempt to install mods, there is no default mods folder.

When I download scenarios/levels from the website, and place them in my "levels" folder as directed by the attached instructions, the levels do not show up in my BeamNG interface (I suspect this is because the game is not updated).

How do I correct this issue when I do not have an option to update my Beam Ng?

Beamng has changed a lot since 2013. There is no update.exe and it auto updates through steam. The terrain
/scenario mods don't go in the levels folder, the go in Documents\beamng\mods as a zipped file. You really don't know know how much beamng has been changed from 2013, have you?

 

This guide does not help me, I've read it multiple times - so I posted this seeking help. Half the stuff in that guide does no show anywhere inside my game, and the "install" feature cited in that link, does not show up on this forum for me, in any of the mod/scenario downloads... the only think I can do is download the files as .zips

Ok, so I'm assuming I should just delete beam.ng and just do a reinstall directly from steam... or is it a function of signing into the forum with your steam account (I'm not currently signed into the forum with my Steam)? Beam.ng does not show in my Steam's library list currently. I wasn't away the mods when into the folder as a zipped file, so that helps a little.

I am aware that Beam.ng has changed significantly... that's why I am seeking help through the forums, because every guide, or advice towards other players that I read is either significantly outdated, or outright incorrect in relation to what I need to do with my current version, to bring it up to date.
