It would be nice if we could have an orbit type camera that doesn't try to correct for direction of travel. Perhaps have an option in the menu that disables the cameras movement. Please take this into consideration, I'm not asking for much.
Basically the 'Chase' camera? You can tune a lot of parameters in the chase camera, like the relaxation, and others. Check under OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY.
Well not exactly, the chase camera is locked in a fixed position no? I want the ability to freely move the camera around with the mouse etc. like when using the orbit camera. Only when I move it to a suitable position it won't reverse the camera when the vehicle is reversing. The chase camera also reacts to the direction the vehicle is traveling. So basically a orbit camera that doesn't react to the vehicles movement if that makes sense. One that just stays where I set it no matter if I'm driving forward or backwards.
Imagine a rope that goes from the camera to the vehicle. And assume that the camera always looks at the vehicle. If the vehicle is moving, the rope will drag the camera around. If the vehicle starts to go back, the camera will always look at the vehicle, but it will change direction as it's not aware where is the 'front' or the 'back'. That's what the orbit camera is in a few words. We know this behaviour is annoying for some, and we will look into improving it later on, there is other stuff that have priority right now.
I think a solid bar makes for a better comparison. What do you mean by this? Remain facing the same direction relative to the map? Or relative to the vehicle (always looks at the same spot on the vehicle)? Just in case you didn't know, you can make your own mod based on the orbit camera mode. Announcement of this: Custom camera modes - possible with 0.5.5. Tutorial: [Tutorial] How to write Camera Mode mods. Making the mod will require an understanding of mathematics (geometry and trigonometry) as well programming, specifically Lua.
Relative to the vehicle of course. I figured, can't really take the time to do it myself right now but thanks for the resources.
