    overkill, until recently, gaming couldnt even max out 8. Having more than you need doesnt make things any faster either.

    Theres other reasons to go above 8 though.

    BeamNG uses all 8gb of my RAM, so 16gb is quite recommendable.

    I'm guessing my mum might soon need to get 16 gb of ram well at least ram is cheap.

    What the hell do you use it for though? AFAIK there is no reasonable consumer application for 64GB of RAM.

    Well... i7 5960x Processor, GTX-980-G1 Graphics Card and cooled with a Corsair H100i Water Cooler.

    I only have 7.2 gb of ram... Beam runs real slow

    thats more than enough for beam. If you dont have enough ram for a program, it slows, if you have more than enough its no different from having exactly enough. If beam is slow, look towards CPU or GPU
