i like this 'repellent', maybe also make one for when you create a thread you have to read the rules (that gabester posted) the first two times in each section as well as the how to post one you have now.

Just tried it out with this post. I like that. Good idea! Albeit, I don't plan on reading it every time, it certainly got my attention. As I'd expect it to with many other members.

I like this idea. If it cuts down on useless garbage by at least 10 percent it was worth the effort. If anything it looks like I received a warning or infraction, so it's an attention-catcher. I might recommend that you make it a brighter color, something like a pale red or orange, as to prevent it from fading into the background. I also really approve of the 16 year old age limit on this forum. That should help a lot, as long as people actually obey that rule.

thanks for taking my suggestion into account. We'll see if it works, it'd be nice if it did.

May I suggest the following corrections and additions; for better English

First step: Think carefully about what you want to post and take time over it if you need to. Keep in mind that thousands of people will read your posts and you waste a lot of people's time if you just write "lol", "I like" or things like that. Remember to search before you post, it can be tiring to answer the same question over and over. Check our FAQ.

Second step: Does your post contribute to the thread? Please be aware that this is not instant messaging: Every post should contribute to the thread and be written out in a semi-formal manner. This is not a text message to someone.

Third step: Check your English. Please use proper spelling and grammar. Keep in mind that not every person in the world uses English as their first language, so please try to use correct capitalization, punctuation, paragraphs and spelling. This makes it easier for everyone to read your posts. Do not use profanity, even as a joke.

Fourth step: After you have written the post, re-read and improve it. Break up sentences that are too long into shorter ones and remember to use paragraphs.

Failure to observe these guidelines may result in the removal of your post or your posting privileges

I saw somewhere in this thread posts supporting a minimum forum age of 16. Although I agree this would almost certainly reduce the amount of immature and unwanted members in the community, I'm concerned mature under 16's would be blocked out. When I joined the RoR forums, I was 13. Yes I did get suspended for a while and such, but I started my monorail system when I was 14. So in my opinion it is a worthwhile idea but it does have its downfalls.

EDIT: Not mature, I certainly wasn't. I mean useful or members who have potential.

When I've posted at all in this forum I don't get this notice or whatever, but from the above posts, it sounds like you need to be 16, I am 13 but I don't want to spam your boards or mess them up. I like to think I am mature :p. Maybe if you are below 16 you get a restricted account until you prove yourself mature enough to have (nearly) unrestricted access to the forums.

Is it possible to add a like button to the posts? So if we want someone to know that we like their idea we can just like their post rather than making another post that says something like "good idea", i think it will help cut back on useless posts.

I agree. Even make it possible to rate a post positively or negatively? Then users could have a total number representing how useful their posts are. e.g +5, or -3.

I don't support the 16 and older thing. It seems just not fair to some people.

And Tom, I'm not getting the little thing you integrated on on mobile devices, only a PC.

well, an up-vote and a down-vote button would probably benefit the forum, it'd stop alot of drama if you can simply down-vote someone's comment and not cause an argument by using words that someone would be inclined to respond to. like on YouTube.

Thank you! But that would be why I'm not getting the rules thing, I'm on iPod, my dell has a virus and won't connect to my wifi XF

EDIT: I was reading more and I saw the up and down vote options, they might stop verbal wars but then people would spam the dislike button on people they hate (for example of they got a temp ban from an admin) even if it's a good post and we'd have people down voting them and it might spill over into PMs or the thread.

well, it may be abused but at-least it'll be abused in a way that won't flood the forum with flame wars. Maybe a cool-down timer on voting would help.

I think if it gets abused the button gets closed
