I will try to get BeamNG running on an Optiplex 860 as I have one laying around. Salvaged from a school about 3 months ago. Pentium D @ 2.8 GHz, but I need to find some RAM. All I know about it..
At my high school, I don't think steam would install but one of the IT teachers made a program that would download files for certain games that you could play after you have done your work or at lunch times in one of the IT rooms, I don't think that program worked on the library PC's!
Hm. I'm running a heavily pimped 780 as my only PC. Next Christmas I want to stick a GTX970 in it. Dell PCs are easy to modify IMO, you just take the panel off and do your stuff, no stupid locks.
the reason for the slow fps is that not only has it got a rubbish Pentuim D that were never really fast and its got a GMA graphics chip which is good for games from 2004 that arent 3D, i remember running the game at 3fps on 2.8ghz prescott p4 and GMA graphics and it was sort of playable, next i upgraded to a Pentuim D 820 and that brought it up to 8fps with geforce 210 then the big upgrade:C2Q Q6600 and geforce gtx 750 giving 23fps (all D15s) My school have three different pc types Dell optiplex 745 and 760=Pentuim D and GMA graphics Acer=Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and GMA-the graphics cant run windows aero properly on win7 and they lag horribly on online games Dell Optiplex 790=Intel Core I5 2400 and a radeon graphics card of some sort (i think its a 5300) EXE files are banned from our school and for anyone who brings linux in then they get banned from the computers for the rest of the year, they have Ranger which is horribly outdated and it switches off windows aero and they have banned chrome and the stupid it technician has all the computers running at 1400x1050 which is higher than the displays so it looks awful and on some computers its 1024x768, its such a mess! and they banned everything but on the acer pcs they havent banned the IGFX toolbar thing so i can change it from 1024x768 to 1280x1024, i sometimes use powerpoint to adjust the resoloutions too! everyone gets 500mb of network storage and they scan it and if they find any EXE files then they delete it and you cant go on youtube etc. the optiplex 790s are really quick they have an acceptable internet speed to on IE9! i honestly dont know why they dont update to IE11 but yeah, beamng probably would run well on the 790s but crap on the other machines, all the teachers have 790s and theres one IT room with the 790s installed
No AGP graphics card that I currently have would be powerful enough to run Beam any faster. The powersupply is also only 280 watts.
Powersupply seems to be a part of the case too, not sure if I can get it out. Doesn't seem to be a normal size either.
Lol, all my school's PCs either have a 3.3GHz i5 and 4GB RAM, a 3.7GHz i3 and 4GB RAM, or the most common: an Atom D525 at 1.8GHz or a D7000 at 2.1GHz with 2 GIGABYTES OF RAM. They're probably using the iGPUs. They all run W7. How does that even work...
ive ran windows 7 on a laptop with 1gb ram (my HP) and it really was begging for more ram but it was usuable, quite surprising since the hard drive was absoloutely rubbish (seq read 20mb/s) and the random was awful
Wow. Seriously though, everything is so slow. It takes 30 seconds to log in sometimes. IMO, if I was given one, I would sell it.
My laptop im on right now is better than 80% of the desktops in this school, and everyone here thinks that macs are superior in every single way because they "never get viruses", while out of all the computers i have ever had its only gotten a virus once, and i removed it in a day soo...
School computers... We have a lot of Dell Optiplex 360s at our school, and since one and a half year ago also a few Lenovo ThinkCenters. The storage per pupil is limited to 200MB. It isn't even enough for a few programs that I need occasionally (I don't even mean games). At least they added MS Office 2013 back then, which is at least a BIT better. But, really. Schools are really good in the category of how-do-I-make-the-pupils-unwanting-to-play-games-on-school-PCs-by-making-those-pathetic-boxes-barely-good-enough-to-make-biro-work-on. @clayton8or Macs are only better if you think that something that is named after a fruit is better than anything else. Okay, I think so too because of he Raspberry Pi, but that's something different as in the exact opposite.
I remember Boroughmuir High School having tons of Apples in my first 2 years before they upgraded to HP computers throughout the school that meant games could go on and by god it was incredible when we started gaming there and the School Computer Administrator Miss Lambert who was a lovely 50 year old lady tried to shut us down but she failed and we continued to game god it was awesome fun!
she was fooling around with network settings but we had a hacker who was undoing all her hard work to stop the game server....its a mega complicated story and I have forgotten most of it
