Hello, I am just wondering whether it would be possible to have working air brakes in game at some point? I know that at the moment it probably isn't possible, but I do think that it would be a good feature to include in the near future. (Similar to what the Mclaren SLR has) Mrniz666
this is a good idea, if or when they work on air physics and things like aerodynamics, drag, lift, other things like that. (i dont think they will implement air physics.) because air braking requires an interactive atmosphere in the world-similar to real life-,that would hard to replicate in the game and would probs be a lot for your computer to process.
unless you used an airfoil reading the title I thought of pneumatic brakes like there is on trucks, heh.
Yea, I also thought like those real loud brakes on semi trucks and 18-wheelers. I think it's actualy called engine braking, I think.
Engine braking is not what semi trucks use, they do use pneumatic. Engine braking:'Engine braking occurs when the retarding forces within an engine are used to slow a vehicle down' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_braking Air Brake (pneumatic brakes): 'Air brakes or more formally a compressed air brake system is a type of friction brake for vehicles in which compressed air pressing on a piston is used to apply the pressure to the brake pad needed to stop the vehicle.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_brake_(road_vehicle)
Trucks use engine braking too. Look on that page you posted, under diesel. Compression release engine brake also called the Jake Brake. Engine braking isn't Jake Braking, but people call it that, especially when talking about trucks. Though engine braking in cars typically means not clutching while braking.
things like airbrakes are possible in beamNG, it uses a system similar to RoR. Every collisiontriangle serves as little wing. There are even some proof-of-concept airplanes and helicopters
Wings and air brakes would be cool but like others I was thinking this was about the air brakes in large trucks and the jake brake. I would think this game has some sort of atmosphere to it they do calculate airspeed and you can see things flap about as if the air moving over them is doing it.
old thread and yes, there is atmospheric drag, there are planes and all sorts generating actual lift using the games drag model alone. An airbrake is fully possible.
