    The Pembroke

The Pembroke is a fully-rigged 18th century frigate. Designed for agility and speed in battle, and with long-range potential, these were the backbone of the Age of Sail.

I've now given my first complete jbeam project, and BeamNG's first ship, a proper spit-shine. And in time for the festive season that is Talk Like a Pirate Day, no less. New features include:
    • Selectable and skinnable mainmast flag, with the options of the White Ensign of the early 18th century Royal Navy, the Spanish Burgundy Cross*, and the once obscure and potentially inaccurate but iconic Skull-and-Crossbones of pirate fame.
    • Sinking, via detachable and damageable buoyancy pods.
    • Three rows of functioning broadside cannons
    • Slight extra pass of detail. It still ain't pretty, but it's a bit easier on the eyes than it once was.

    Directions:

Place the .zip file under Documents>BeamNG.Drive>mods. Do not extract. The primary means of moving the ship is via the wind app, as the sails do function more or less like real sails. Likewise, they break like real sails, so don't make the wind go faster than ~50 MPH. Otherwise, a low-power thruster is available via the Y key. Rudder is powered with the normal steering keys, while cannons are pivoted with T for up and G being down, and fired sequentially with F for port and H for starboard.

Do not reupload to a different site. If you wish to use elements from this project, or would like to take up its longer-term development, please, PLEASE ask my permission first.

*I'm not actually sure that the Burgundy Cross was ever used on any Spanish Naval Vessels, but it looked cool enough and easy to illustrate.

Wouldn't it be possible to get the cloth for the sails?
You know, that Cloth from willdev.

Right? I figure when the devs see a need, they'll create a watercraft section, and throw this, the DSC raft, and that speedboat Dummiesman is working on in there.

I actually haven't downloaded the cloth tester (attaching a steam account is a bit of a pain for me), but I didn't and don't imagine that there's anything greatly spectacular about it. Other than resolution, perhaps.

Well, T's already taken up by the thruster. Which is easily reassigned, but still. My main reason for not adding guns is that there's very little space on the already undersized main deck. I figured that if someone wanted to haul stuff around, which is about all you can do, they'd need ample room for said stuff. And that, if they wished to shoot from the ship, they could simply use the game's signature cannon to do so. I may eventually add cannons, if I figure out how to make them work, and how to add slots to a vehicle.

As for speed, it's set to go about as fast as its real-world counterpart could probably go. If you want more, toy with the thruster in the JBeam file.

It would be possible to have cloth yes. I think that would be cool to have, it might be a bit tedious attaching it to the sails but its doable.

I would try it out, if you use the wind app it's quite good. You shouldn't need a steam account for it.

    Quick update:

    • Added a new, purposeful material to the decks
    • Added some rigging
    • Gave coltris to the lower Mainmast
    • Fully Jbeamed the Maincourse down to the detail (experimental)
    • Added some self-collision
I also stripped the 'pronunciation' section out of the first post. In hindsight, it seemed a bit self-important, and didn't end very well (apologies to Joey Fuller for accidentally making you say "Pembruke").

How did I not find this sooner! Even though it's rough, it's amazing. Just like the first real plane. I highly doubt this mod will be overlooked. I'll probably be doing a video on this shortly. Great work!

Nah, the name of the vessel was just meant to be the most stereotypically British thing that came to mind. When living in a land of Chucks and Billy-Bobs, one has to go to great lengths to conjure up names that would be better suited to 18th Century vessels. Hell, I even made a list.

Well it is great, but it seems to freeze over the water in the newest update. Sad, it looks like fun :(

EDIT: nvm, I dind't knew that pressing j twice resets this and makes it "driveable" :p. nice one
