:| The crown vic is still dripping trans fluid, so it's time to order a trans pan gasket. This should be fun. I'm thinking about putting an aftermarket trans cooler in while I have the lines disconnected. I've heard these early 4R75Ws had problems with heat, even with a factory cooler. I probably won't bother. It's also developed a squeaking on the FMEAD on startup. Need to do some investigation.
You couldn't afford $22 or whatever for a quart? Spend money now rather than later. Good luck finding a good trans at pull a part.
And you still used that place? NO!!! Should have stayed well fucking away. Chances are transmission is pretty much totalled, something which if done on insurance in UK would probably lead to the car being considered an insurance writeoff simply because of the cost of doing so to such a low valued vehicle (plain old mk1 or 2 wasnt it?).
Lol, now look at the fees you'll be paying to fix that car up. Seems like 2.1 quarts of fluid would be much cheaper than that! Don't crap out on vehicle maintenance like that.
Here's a list of SPI Focuses in PullAPart with manual transes we can take. And a transmission here is $75, with a $25 core charge. Still sucks, but it could be much much much worse. If we got that extra quart, it would probably still leak anyway. It was going to happen soon enough.
Just checked the crown vic transmission fluid. Too low to even register on the dipstick. Now, I'm gonna be a responsible car owner and stop driving it until I've remedied the situation and the transmission is full of and holding ATF. Take notes kitteh. :| Kinda strange because the car still shifts fine and doesn't slip. Filled it up a month ago and I guess it's all leaked out. I kinda find that hard to believe though. Also, I brought this car home a month ago to the day.
Yeah but its an auto not a manual. While autos rely on the presence of the fluid far more than manuals, they are less sensitive to the volume present (of course that is not a reason to ignore it...). Most autos have a scavenge pump or 2 physically moving the fluid to the top of the transmission allowing it to always reach where required dont they? Most manuals do not, they tend to partially submerge 1 or both shafts and use splash lubrication, fluid level drops then its not going to get any lubrication at all, if you have a pump, the entire transmission still gets fluid just at a reduced rate.
I'm not very familiar with transmissions, but autos do have at least one pump. I think. The crown vic may have two because of the trans cooler. Idk When you get low fluid in an auto it'll start to act weird and not function correctly because it relies on the fluid itself to do the shifting. I've experienced no odd behavior. Idk. I'll fix the leak them fill it back up.
Transmission problems for everybody! And you get one, and you get one, and.... Yea changing my trans fluid and filter helped nothing, still shifts hard after it gets warmed up good. Doing some research it seems my problem may be the control valve body is worn out, from what I could find it looks like the 4L60E started getting some subpar parts installed around the mid to late 90s. This problem could need transmission removal, which in a 4th gen F-body means engine removal as well... which also means removing nearly all of the front of the car including the front suspension. Ehhh.
Speaking of transmissions, I've yet to fix the Audi's. Under hard acceleration, there's a huge clunk when it shifts from 1st to 2nd, like someone's hit the tranny tunnel with a sledgehammer, and the same happens when you quickly let off the throttle, which tells me there's slack in the driveline somewhere... I forgot to change the clutch in the Subaru during my uni break. Semester starts in 2 days :/ Still impressed at $200 for a good aftermarket clutch assembly. Bought a new radiator too ($103!); the old one hisses and spits coolant at 2k+ rpm.
Got a flat today & had to change it on the side of the Motorway. Fuck you whoever lost a bunch of nails on the Princess Motorway.
Well, it's looking like transmission problems are the norm right now. I've started to notice that the one in my truck has slipped once or twice, and I can't the dipstick for the fluid. I also found that the last time it was serviced, the mechanic overfilled it with oil. My poor bearings, it was to probably compensate for the really, very slow leak it has. Anyways, if anyone for any reason knows where the transmission dipstick on a 2002 GMC Sonoma (4.3L V6) is, let me know. I'll go do some Googleing now too.
Should be on the left side of the engine, back near the firewall. Just flip up the little handle and pull it out.
Some days ago, one of the rubber mounts on the second last muffler snapped, so I went and bought a set of 2 rubber mounts and replaced the snapped one. A few days later it decided to break... Didn't care that much since the exhaust didn't sag or anything like that, in tight corners it would shake against the car making a vibrating sound. Yesterday I was doing some errands and when I came home, about a minute after I had parked, there was a bang and the whole car shaked. I was really confused to what this could be. Then when I looked under the car today, the second rubber mount had snapped too, making the exhaust grind against the undercarriage and sag down a lot. Soo, I jacked up the car and put a rubber mount on one place and zip ties on both places. Seems to hold up really good. Now I'm gonna deal with cracks on the joints on that muffler I mentioned, there are quite big cracks on both sides..
