I've noticed a few people mention that they have autism. Here is a place to discuss it. I have autism, and I am pretty sure I was born with it. I was treated when I was 7, and since then I have been able to interact with other people a lot better than I used to be.
i have high-functioning autism,i had no idea there was a "treatment" for it,my autism makes me not very good at socializing,and i tend to be a bit socially akward aswell. oh and i forgot to mention,i tend to have anger issues too,my spacebar doesent quite work right (you have to hit it right in the center or else it wouldnt work) cuz i got really angry cause i lost my password for steam or somthing like that.other than that i am a very chill person,but i tend to be waay too chill all the time,which makes people think im on drugs or somthing like that...
Yeah there are various therapies and a few drugs that can help. But no proper "cure" as such. As for joey being sure he was born with it. Yes. It is not something a person catches or even develops in later life, certain genes have been shown to have links with autism, you basically have it from conception of the foetus. I have a bit of a hatred for anti vaxxers claiming the vaccines cause autism. There was only 1 paper published which showed this and over 90% of it was doctored data, the guy lost his research licenses over it. Hell he used a sample size of 14, claimed all of the non control subjects got autism from the vaccines (obviously ridiculous, in vaccinated and do not have autism) when in reality only 1 of the 14 kids had autism and he was a control subject with no vaccinations. If someone was to research the effects of a vaccinated parent giving birth to autistic kids, that would have more scientific basis, but I hypothesise no correlation considering what a vaccine actually does... I do not have autism. I do have a few friends who have aspergers. I've been to a few events for an autism society at my uni.
Haven't checked on this in a bit, I saw a couple of replies. Before I was treated, I was not very sociable. I would go in my room and play with hot wheels instead of visiting my grandparents. Once I was treated, I still didn't like visiting family, they would talk about me and that made me feel like there was something wrong with me, and they were trying to fix me like a broken toy. When I said I was treated, I meant that I had to undergo dietary changes and behavioral changes. I eat some pretty weird stuff, but the main thing we started at was no more sugary foods, no more fast food, and no more grilled cheese sandwiches (my favorite food at the time) We started by finding out more about what alternative foods were out there. We found alternative cheeses and breads, among other things. As for behavioral changes, I was made a little "behavior book." Each day I was good, I would get a smiley face. Each day I was bad, I would get a sad face. The point of this book being: I would be rewarded each day I was good, and punished each day I was bad. Pretty soon there were more changes, both dietary and behavioral. After those years of work, here I am typing out something that I feel I can share with everyone. I don't think that my family is trying to fix me anymore, I have accepted that I was born with Autism. I am now able to interact with people, and I enjoy it. My aunt and uncle and 4 of my cousins recently came to visit us, and I was able to speak to them, and relate to the conversation that was going on. We even went in the pool a few times, and that was fun. My point: You can have fun with your family and friends, or girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever, with autism. I learned a few things when I went to an autism conference a few years ago, I learned that a lot of smart people have autism. Sorry for the long post. This was important for me to say.
Believe it or not, i'm only be able to talk smooth and longer conversation with someone who knows cars (car enthusiast). Others, i would say like ohh, ok, thanks for info, etc etc.
I have never needed treatment. when i got older it just got better for some reason, i didnt start out very bad at all i just had a few things that bother me (some of them still do today HIGH PITCHED SOUNDS) but some people say i wasnt very socialable when i was younger, which is true. but even recently they STILL think im not, even though i have a decent amout of friends and try to be part of stuff and let others be a part of stuff aswell. they just think i havent changed. i have changed a bunch even in the past 2 years, i think i have changed the most. (this post is probably not well put together i also suck at writing.)
I also have autism, I am on meds for it, I have gotten way better since I was younger! I didn't used to like change, now I kinda like change!
Also have autism. Probably why I have such an interest in things such as physics and computer programming.
I have high functioning aspergers syndrome, it proves to have some awkward aspects to it, or thats just how I am I guess, but its not too bad, helps at times which is nice
I don't have Autism/aspergers, but I do have severe hearing loss but, with help of hearing aids, I hear just fine, I am due to get some new hearing aids soon. - - - Updated - - - More stuff to say, it was highly likely that Albert Einstein had autism because he would often repeat things to his students where they were unable to follow him and understand where he was getting a, I think that's a symptom of autism.
That alone would be unlikely. Potentially possible though considering he also excelled in a specific field which is common to aspergers and the rest of the autistic spectrum. I also have hearing loss, although not severe enough to require hearing aids. Abnormal ear canal, wasnt discovered until my late teens, if was discovered before teens could have been corrected with a grommet, now its too late and I just have to put up with somewhat poorer than average hearing and requiring 2 syringes a year which the NHS refuse to do at risk of tearing my ear drum (which I've also done before) plus regular ear drops.
Full disclosure: i have NOT been diagnosed with autism (although ive never been tested for it) or anything like that, nor am i saying that i have it. But I have noticed that I display multiple signs of autism such as extreme interest in a particular subject, multiple social issues, etc. But i do know that i hold a lot of respect for people with autism or aspergers or anything similar to that. Life can be hard, and having to deal with that can make it a little bit harder. My best friends brother has severe autism (absolutely non-verbal, totally dependent on his family, essentially living in his own little world), and he's taught me a lot just by being who he is. Whether or not i have autism isnt important, but understanding that people who have it and live with it are equally important as those who dont is very important. Unfortunately not a lot of people understand that
Speaking of those extreme interests; when i was younger i had extreme interests in many things. -washing machines -ceiling fans -automobiles -elevators -fire alarms electrical systems -computers -youtube since then ive much-ly(is that even a word?-i dont think it is!) decreased interest in many of those things and now i have just average-ish hobbys and interests like everyone else. -fire alarms (i have a hobby of collecting fire alarms) -washing machines (its an interest,i plan to be a washing machine technician when i get older!) -ceiling fans(now its just somewhat of an interest) -automobiles(probabolay my largest interest to current) -computers(i really want to learn to 3d model but its hard for me to grasp concepts and stuff,if i could 3d model i would have already made several vehicles for beamNG) -elevators (its an interest now,i like to film lifts.Though I haven't been around that much elevators lately. -architecture,building design,and skyscrapers (world trade center,sears tower,etc.)
Still speaking of those extreme interests (i guess i never grew out of them) Air raid sirens (the ones you hear before a bomb is dropped on your head, specifically between world war one and the vietnam war) High fidelity sound Weapons (i dont use them, only collect them) Old lighters, not the butane kind Aircraft of any kind Space/science of any kind And once for a science project, i built a 1:20th working mechanical replica of an elevator out of sticks and paperclips, complete with opening doors and centrifugal emergency brakes. I won the science fair :3 Ive always wondered why people with autism and the like get so invested in niche subjects like that
with me. I have ADHD and azburgers. Im not very socialize I stay in my room and play video games and eat candy (Dad owns a vending company) and I dont go out much because i feel like theres not anything really to do. All thou i do also have a weird side that alot of people would dislike me for and would probably humiliate. but thats me and we are all diffrent.
I think i had a rule out diagnosis for aspbergers. Im pretty sure i have a mild form of it. I think that because of my extreme interest in computers. All my knowledge of computers was made by tinkering and messing around with them. I have 70ish computers so thats probably another give away.
The exact same happened to me. Luckily I passed my exams so I won't have to go there another year. I have no idea why we get treated this way in school, but I guess people just assume that we can't take care of anything in life.
