Just cooked up an idea for mechanical survival scenario... No-oil/coolant scenario: First off, I understand oil leaks and overheating is not implemented yet, but they are confirmed in the works. The oil/coolant-less scenario would be getting from point A to B driving with no oil. So, you would have to get there as fast as you can, without seizing the motor. This means carefully watching the temp gauge as you try to reach the highest appropriate rpm along with considering the factor of trip length, and find the perfect middle point to make it through with the shortest time without locking up. Tactical tricks such as coasting downhill, less throttle on uphills, engaging neutral when adequate, are cruicial. For example, race A is 10 miles, and vehicle X has a max of 6750 rpm, however it does not make its peak power until 4250. So, you would try to shift up only till about 4k, and make it 10 miles without locking up. However, let's say you have the same vehicle, but the length is 17 miles, now you must only hit the max rpm of 3250, to compensate the longer trip, to let the engine take longer to seize and survive the entire trip. But, imagine different variables, such as an SOHC setup, or a mid rpm turbo, now that could get tricky
Thanks! I know it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I see this as more of a true petrol heads scenario. The petrol head that appreciates the science and engineering beneath.
Depending on the brand/model/engine, you'd be surprised. https://youtu.be/P8JoGKDXJfc These guys killed it quicker cause they put it to the floor, and they took half the damn engine off lol. Imagine how much farther they could have gotten if they drove hit at half the load, and the only factor was no oil.
You are quite right actually. Look how many Japanese compact cars have taken years and years of abuse from a stereotypical driver of a certain gender and age who haven't checked oils and levels. These little nissans and Hondas etc are bullet proof
It's amazing, isn't it? Hopefully, when the devs get to it, makes and models will be considered as a factor on how long these engines will bear life with no oil.
thanks for that link to the video, I got sucked in for over an hour lol it truly is amazing how much abuse these cars can take. There are literally hundreds of videos on YT that showcase how bulletproof the Civics and Sentras are, plus reading the comments is certainly entertaining. It would and Should be an easy thing to implement, essentially something similar to NED, except it eats away at the jbeam for the engine or something.
Exactly, and don't forget good ol' toyota You sound like me haha, I did the same thing when I found the video. And yes, it definitely shouldnt be too difficult. The hirochi brand should generally live longer than the gavrils
although you get the good ol' GM's (as in Davids Farm, the 3800s and 3100s etc) that live thru quite some hell, theres always gonna be a motor that a brand produces that is unnaturally strong and durable.
Yes! The old ones definitely are tanks. Forgot to mention that. Every brand has a gem period. Too bad it can't be every Era :/
Truck parked nissan at full blast for 10 minute with oil the radiator blow up in smoke at like 5 minute and the PICKUP TRUCK go go go go without radiator fluid for another 5 minute before having no more fuel. Engine cant really die from overheating they will stall and work after. Sure seal will get damaged but well I overheated some chinesse atv so often and they started pumping oil after like 5000 km Still running well that thing Sure without oil you wont go far. But before Oil and crap like that. Can we just have working air filter? SNORKEL and stuff
Well I tried checking the heigh of the pickup about a month ago and their seem to be no filter or anything and it just stall randomly. Gta Iv had a box in the engine that was the stall point. I want something like this for reaslism Gonna google that arb thing
Gavril-D15-Stepside-Flareside-Flatbed AR162B that I've always found easiest to shorten to ARB. The JBeam allows defining which node has to be submerged for the engine to stop. I cant remember which it is or what line its on, but if I recall, ARB's mod does move it upto the top of the snorkel when fitted. GTA4 didnt use a set point, I think it was a percentage of vehicle submerged, I certainly had the nose enter the water on some vehicles and then continue to reverse out of the water.
Well I disabled that % later on so i was Driving in the middle of the sea falling out of the map... Lifted car and stuff Power + weight and blabla. Maybe it was a % but i could wheely Motorcycle in water if the front did not touch water i was good. There was a box on all vehicle inside the hood that was exactly the same and it seemed to be a Shutdown point too
