I have no idea what triggers this, but occasionally, my cars will slowly start steering left. It's really a annoying problem, and I can't pin it to the input. I've removed my controller to see if it was that, but it's not. In the video, it happens at 0:35 and 1:35 . It's completely random, or so I think. I haven't been able to attribute it to anything yet.

Engine torque that is over exaggerated, I think that is the cause..

Do you mean the force on the wheels would cause them to turn? If this is the case, I still need a way to fix it :(. I don't think this would be the case though, because as far as I know, the steering wheel inside the cab only moves when an input is changed.

The steering wheel doesn't stop the wheels from turning like a solid beam.. they can still turn a little freely.. torque steer FWD my friend for example..

The steering animation only turns on input yes, but the wheels doesn't quite work that way so torque steer would only affect wheels in this game as an example.

If you go to the engine.jbeam you might see a line that says "Torque reaction node" if you change or remove this line you may be able to fix the issue.. but idk.

Cool! I'll give it a shot

Update: It didn't work :(. I forgot to mention that this happens to all cars in the game, not just the pickup. I think it's a game-wide problem. Gonna reinstall, and see what happens

This is very odd indeed, are you sure no controllers are connected (this includes virtual controllers such as controller emulators)?

It happens to ALL the cars in the game. Somehow on my Prelude it got worse and we're struggling to fix it before releasing, but as far as I can see, not even the devs know how to do it.

All cars drift in Beam but that is drastic. On Matrix the Gavril cop car will stay straight for eternity but all others want to slowly drift to the left.

This definitely looks like an input related problem, you can see the wheels turn quite a lot... The only time I experience veering off slightly is the torque steer(Which is minimal).

cbrider; the Prelude seems to be fully n/b related, not related to this input problem.

If this is still happening, we can check if it's faulty input controller the following way:
    - Load the level and vehicle.
    - Click the top-right menu icon, then on "Controllers Config (WIP)".

That will bring up the new bindings menu. While this menu is open, you can continue playing, and watch the game through the slightly transparent section on the right.

    Quick explanation:
-On the left side, your connected controllers should appear. This shows whatever your controllers are doing. What appears here is *almost* surely outside the control of BeamNG, e.g. hardware issues (bad potentiometers, faulty solderings in electric boards, a bad quality USB hub doing nasty stuff, etc), or maybe buggy/outdated drivers.
-On the right side, the bindings are shown, with the post-processed values that are fed into the game (e.g. inverted axis, etc).

Ok, that said, now do the following:
    - Perform the same test of the initial post while this screen is open. Check if you see strange values on the left section when the vehicle steers left (e.g. the blue bars suddenly or briefly moves to the left, even if you're not touching the controller). That would probably mean faulty hardware/drivers.
    - If everything is correct on the left side, then keep an eye on the right side. If you see strange values there, then it's a problem of the input system, which seems to have survived after last release's revamped version.
    - If everything is correct on the right side too, then it might be a problem with the level design, the vehicle itself, or maybe the physics.

Please let us know how it goes :)

Re: All cars are randomly turning left

Thanks for the tips! I'm waiting for BeamNG to update right now, and I've disconnected all controllers. Gonna see how this goes. I'm also going to try this with the controller.

Update: It looks like it was the controller. 2015-04-01_00001.jpg (I wasn't touching the joystick when this happened - you can see the x-axis is indicating input-left)I'm going to test the controller a bit more, but thanks for all the help! It turns out that it did only happen when the controller was plugged in.

Re: All cars are randomly turning left

Alright, it definitely looks like a problem with the controller. In the past I've experienced problems with outdated (or Windows' default) drivers, so try to find updated drivers of the joystick/gamepad, install them and try again, and see if that noise goes away.
If that doesn't work, try to skip any possible USB hubs and connect the controller directly to the front or back of your PC tower.
If that doesn't work either, then it looks like it's really a problem on controller hardware, so the only solution is to open and fix it, or buy another one.
