Title says it all, before sending me to another fourm thread or video link ive tried it all, but nothing seems to be working. im trying to make a flat, all sand map with a slight depth for more friction for rollovers.. and I just cant seem to get it to work no matter how many times I recolor the ter file or make sure its sized correctly etc... any help with this?

This is one of my weak links. If you open up a maps files most should have a terrain depth.ter. When you look at it (GIMP, paint etc.), the coloring (greyscale), indicates the
various depths, white high, black low. In the GridMap depth map you see the area where the mud strip is and is what gives that mud strip it's depth.

Try copying, importing and re-naming a good depth map like ECA and see what happens. I'll assume the stock mud and sand texture groundmodels will see
that and perform as expected however this is pure uninformed theory on my part. Something to try anyway.

Post the depth map file or the whole map. Otherwise we can only guess what went wrong.

Yes it is a good thread!! I have the same problem, the depth map is very misterious for me because I did a lot of inconclusive test on it... :( I tried to do it for dirt roads for testing but don't work... Is there a link between the terrain 0_basetex and the terrain.ter.depth?? Because I have noticed on small Island for example that the two texture was inverse and the same resolution..or unrelated ?? What is the secret! :p

An another example : I have taked my sand export texture of beam like this 1.png

After I reversed colors and modified image size of 2048 to 1024( maybe it is an error..) and up the lightning to do that 2.png

And finally save the file in my canyon_of_speed folder... 3.png

    There's something else to do?

DoullPepper, looks like your heightmap is 2048 pixels (about 12 MB ter file), so the depth map should be 2048x2048 too. Maybe try with a grey depth map first, so you can tell if it works anywhere on the map. If that works but the mostly white depth map doesn't seem to work, you may have to flip the depth map vertically (Edit > Flip Vertical in Photoshop).

The depth map name should match the .ter file name, like this: canyon_of_speed_0.ter.depth.png

Thanks a lot! It what a little thing!! the "_0" :D

It works very nice... I have just take the height export, inverse colors and brighten the grey for the depth I want, and save at canyon_of_speed_0.ter.depth.png ... It was very simple, mistery solved! :)

    version2_sceen8.jpg Thank you
