I know that they take at least two weeks off during the winter (which is why we've never had a major update in January or February since 2015/2016), but I'm not aware of any summer vacations. It would make sense for them to take some time off after crunching for months on 0.39. That might be when the PS5 release drops. The teaser seems geared mostly toward the PS audience (since it was filmed on the PS5) so having their update drop on the 3rd (or at least, the week of the 3rd) would make sense to me. But that would leave the third week of September (a week we've had an update on for the past four years) without anything, so the devs could save the PS5 version for that. There were two major updates on Sunday - 0.3.1 (22 June 2014) and 0.4.1 (2 August 2015). But both of those were ages ago - before I even knew of BeamNG.drive (I bought it 26 December 2015). I'm old enough to remember the April Fools' Incident from 2017, a couple weeks before the Hopper dropped. People were so hyped for that vehicle, the mods had to shut down this thread at least once. I think it was three times? But yeah, it was crazy how hyped people were for that little SUV. I'd argue the Hopper was one of the most impactful vehicles in BeamNG history - ever since that vehicle, the devs have shifted focus from cranking out a new sedan or coupe every month or two to breaking new boundaries and niches every ~eight months. In the nine years since the Hopper's release, 24 vehicles (including the MR Turbo, Tograc, robot van, and Autobuggy) have been released - compared to the 21 vehicles released in the three years from 0.3-0.8. I think we're getting a general graphics update to all the vehicles, like what happened after 0.23 with PBR. A little disappointing, but after so many years of big content releases (it's been over 5 years since 0.23), it makes sense to update what we've got instead of adding new stuff. If any vehicle was to get a refresh or remaster, it'd probably be the Hopper, since that's going to get simplified traffic configurations in 0.39. There have been five major July releases - 0.3.4 (1st, 2014), 0.6/0.6.1 (23rd/29th, 2016), 0.13 (13th, 2018), and 0.29 (4th, 2023).
We've seen a few different bumpers now, so we can see some of the trim levels: base, maybe arsenic because of the diffuser, and then a race/hillclimb. No single exhaust yet, as they're going to a muffler at the rear and splitting into two exhaust tips.
I think they're trying to release the update because that's their business model, and they haven't released an update in over 7 months...
Anyone else hope there will be a north American version? It genuinely pains me to drive eu cars on us maps. And when I see people w eu cars in traffic on us maps it pisses me off so fucking much
So now with the latest info from tdev its likely the update will be dropping no later than the 24th of July
Well, to be fair, it is real-life accurate considering the French don't sell their cars here in the US anyway...
And since we’re seemingly allergic to anything that’s not a giant 3 row suv, I don’t see a French coupe having a USDM version. I’d love to see it too, but I don’t think it’s likely.
No tf we are not. I'm so genuinely sick of this stereotype because compact cars literally do exist here. It's just exaggerating for the purpose of dunking on North America.
Nah you have a lot of suvs and trucks. Stereotype is valid af. Whenever I cross the border theres a huge difference. Theres a reason things like the Nissan Micra were only sold in Canada and not the USA.
