Idk what to say about it. just use your phone to text or call your friends in game then. I wouldn't mind if there's zero support for chat.
I'm not saying anyone should be forced to talk or listen to anyone else while playing the game. But we've had voice chat on consoles for over two decades. It's not exactly revolutionary. A simple toggle on/off makes everyone happy. Playing BeamMP without a typing chat, like it has been for a while now, is such a dry experience.
I could see that part it would be nice having the option to mute public voice chats if they add it. Hopefully theres an option to sort sim drivers from mayhem inducers as well.
That's why I stopped playing BeamMP. They barely did any major updates after bringing it back after the hacking incident, like bring back BeamMP accounts. It's been 3-4 months since it was brought back and the chat system still isn't even working. I think that's what convinced me to quit BeamMP as a whole. I at least do hope they fix the chat system since it's a pretty important feature to multiplayer itself!
Playstation players have the built-in Game Base which does exactly that. You can talk to other people both via text and voice chat, add people to your friends list, etcetera. If you want to talk to PC players, Discord is integrated into Game Base so all you have to do is link your Discord account. Assuming we get crossplay in the first place, which i'd say is likely but not guaranteed I think we'll almost certainly get a text chat, voice chat sure would be great but it's not a must-have IMO
Chat works sometimes on official servers, but its fine all time for other servers. Even so its hard to get in game context with all being guests. For me its a good sign as it kinda means that theyre working on something else, maybe the official MP, so wouldnt be useful to update mp as mod if its going to be in the game in less than a year. For the chat on PS5, first we gotta see how the "chat app" is for official MP, and maybe the "add friend" option will evolve the current friend system. We cant speculate on that if we dont know how official MP would work.
Oh, that explains it. The chat worked fine in one of the official servers, but it didn't on another. I guess it could be just a bug ... Edit: Chat on official servers does not work for me lol. Another edit: BeamMP is hosting a development QNA rn and I told the dev in the stream about the issue, and he confirmed chat is disabled for now.
Hopefully there's a type of ranking system that tracks how much damage you cause to yourself and other players and keep them separate. I just got this email I know someone else mentioned this but yea. damn it
Very much depends on how devs will approach mod support. If it'll be repo only, then I can imagine a lot of people staying on beammp
It sure will be at some point. But theres no better job opportunity than the one that BeamNG needs now to make a working multiplayer to please the PS5 release (or at least availability in less than 1 year after release). If the MP team can save some work time for the Beam dev team, it surely wont be for free, and MP devs will get stability (not needing to rely only on donations) on their work. Its a win win for all, BeamNG will have MP and BeamMP devs will have the opportunity to work on the game without update delays and much safer "pay" for their work. Most of them have other work for living, maybe this is an actual gamechange on their personal lifes and career. For us players its just great to see how their work and effort takes fruits, for both Beam and MP devs. And it surely will worth this wait. By the way, another day no teaser?
My phone here shows the same time as yours! But it's 2: 40 in the morning here, and I'm a little sleepy now, but I still want to wait for teaser. (It seems that you are on the other side of the earth.)
