The World Editor is an awesome tool. Some things I think would be nice in the World Editor... (My apologies if some of these are already in there) 1) - A "Terrain Picker" - In terrain painting mode, it would be nice to CTRL+Click on terrain to select that material for painting. 2) - "Terrain Mask" - The ability to paint an area on terrain and lock its height and or material so as you modify terrain around it, it will remain protected. (Maybe paint the area and select which elements to lock or leave unlocked) 2.1) - Option to raise, lower, smooth height to match the edge of a "Terrain Mask" (similar to the mesh matching tool) 3) - A filter to load only assets currently on a map into the asset browser. 4) - An option to remove assets not used on current loaded map. (to optimize file size and ram usage) 5) - Total assets currently used on map tool (basically a way for creators with powerful PC's to try to keep their map's optimized for people with lower end PC's) Maybe even an "Estimated GPU Load" indicator? [EDIT] A few more ideas... Master Spline tool is looking like a great tool & there are some things obviously still being worked on with it that I won't waste time mentioning. Some ideas for future updates... 1) - Ability to select Multiple Nodes to raise, lower height or change the width on several at once. Maybe even select a node, then SHIFT+click another node to also select all nodes between them. (I think we can already do this with some other tools) 2) - Average Height between selected nodes. (creating smoother slopes for roads) This could even have the options for various smoothing strengths 100% being the same grade all the way through or 10% just averaging the height a little bit. 3) - I would REALLY love to see the ability to either Remember the last Settings used for terraforming, width, etc... or the ability to set our own preset values for these things. (Same thing with the Road Spline tool) - Having to change these settings every time we terraform or create new roads is rather tedious. 4) - When attaching automatic road spline layers, it would really be nice to set the distance between nodes auto-generated. As it is now it's just way too many nodes and I end up deleting road, edge, lane and centerline splines and place them manually to make my roads more "low end pc friendly". And, for the most part, there isn't really any change in the texture vectors. Auto-Generating road splines Could even be set to Match the nodes of the master spline.
4 and 5 is more or less there. Can’t remember how to find 4 but 5 is in the performance graph on second tab. 4 can be done with my tools shrink option. BeamNG mapping tools.
YES. And FYI for those reading this... @AlexKidd71 - BeamNG mapping tools is a great way to not only remove unused assets, but also great set of tools for many many mapping tasks. I you are a BeamNG Map Creator, I highly recommend this set of tools. Also great for copying assets from other maps to yours, creating maps from real world locations, and so many more things. (always make backups of your map folder before using any tool - I copy my entire map folder to another drive every day that I work on one) Thank you for the tip. I didn't know about the performance graph!
I been saying for a long time.... Make a global smooth for map. Or tell it to smooth all angles above 80 degrees. Gizmo, Extend that handle bar in the back. Make it more easier to grab that one in the back, because its nearly impossible to get too without having to fly all the way around or get damn lucky in picking that back line. if they really wanted to make life easier, adopt a blender movement. they already have 1, 2, 3 for move rotate scale, make it so 1, 2, 3 + X, Y, Z to lock on a axis. Speaking of Lock, Make a hot key to lock selection currently so no accidental clicking off it, then having to re-acquire it is a hassle with alphas on the screen too.
Thank you @Artistterrymartin for the feedback. Some good ideas. You could export the heightmap to graphic editor and do a gaussian blur with a value of like 1, then import it back, but this IS about adding things like that to the BeamNG tool set to make World Editor better, so yea GG
Thanks, yeah I have done that before. I personally think the entire icons should be revamped color coded for easier eye navigation. Too many icons look alike or do not represent the tool well enough for easy navigation. If you think about it, road signs are differnt shaps, colors, and symbols/words. The is 3 identifiers. If all the signs where the same color it would not have as a recognizable distinction when needing to make fast responses. It is why we associate color, shape, words/symbols. It comes down to production speed. It likely would take some artistic work and some coding. And mostly agreeable that is the problem. No two people would like it ether way. It is why it should be custom. I'm sure that is in the works at some point. They could have a contest (you design the icons, we all vote) Not based on just artwork. I doubt I could win but it would be fun to try. I tried to get chatGTP to help remake some of the stuff and I could not find where in the install path that stuff is.
Some good ideas, and I agree with the icons. I've clicked the wrong one more than once. I also agree with the gimbles being tricky to select sometimes. I've even accidently deleted the ground before.
