DISCLAIMER: Due to the size of this map and the fact that this is my first map, the quality will be pretty low in comparison to most other maps, especially the first 5 miles of I-85 and Route 1 PROJECT VIRGINIA About Project Virginia is a 209,870mi²/337,750km² mapping project of mine that aims to offer long trips for people who who enjoy trucking or going on long drives in general, it is a 1:1 scale (road distance wise) and plans to have all interstates included at one point (although this obviously won't be completed to this point for a long time), many towns and cities, and back roads will be included here and there. Small parts of other states may be included at later points as well, many features and custom props will be included to give a more immersive experience. Airports will also be included and railroads as well (eventually) Although the quality of this map will be on the lower end due to limitations of maps of this size and may look buggy in some areas due to visual bugs and floating point errors. Amount of roads and content will increase with each update. Features Traffic and Parked Cars -Traffic will spawn on pretty much all of the roads unless its the roads are in a private or extremely secluded area -Traffic will typically travel faster in the passing lanes most of the time just as they would in real life, increasing realism and making overtaking easier, on top of this, AI will typically follow the posted speed limits or go over by 5-10mph and slow down near speed cameras. -Parked AI cars are also included and will commonly spawn on streets, driveways, and less commonly on highways. Traffic Lights -Working traffic lights that AI traffic properly respond to is also included, more advanced variants and intersections are planned. Signs -Many realistic reflective signs are around the map. Animated Dynamic Message Signs are also included: Gas Stations -Working gas stations will be commonly found around the map Dynamic Lights -Many things like streetlamps or other lights may activate/deactivate with the day and night cycle License Plates -Cars that use the US plate size will use a Virginia License plate by default. -Plates also use a realistic format just like in real life, most often starting with a T, J, V, or U. Experimental Dynamic Props -Dynamic props are planned but for now, they are pretty rudimentary and experimental, like this toll. Reflectors -Reflectors can be seen commonly around on the roads. Thanks, although as a side note it looks like some embeds broke and it won't let me edit the post so it seems like it'll stay like this for a while, oops Edit: fixed
Wow, genuinely did not expect someone to be working on a 1:1 scale recreation of my home state in BeamNG Drive. As an Appalachian, I can't wait to see you recreate the Skyline Drive, and my home town of Front Royal.
very nice map! several questions: how did you create a map this big? I thought BeamNG.drive only allowed maps that were really tiny how did you make the road signs? I assume Blender? how did you make the working gates and dynamic message signs? did you use the Road Architect tool to make the roads? I ask all this because I plan on making my own map with a similar size
If/When I get to this will probably take a while, I see that it is near a interstate which increases it's chances but its I-66, for now I-64 and I-85 Will have the most priority --- Post updated --- how did you create a map this big? I thought BeamNG.drive only allowed maps that were really tiny To my knowledge, beamng itself does not limit the size of maps (on purpose at least), you could literally make a map the size of the universe most likely but the devs do not support maps huge like this, which is why most maps are "tiny" as the game engine is limited with huge sizes and many bugs do show once you get bigger, seeing as you play roblox you can look at this game to show better understand what I mean, also I think beamng maps already are infinite its just the terrain that people use to tell the "size" of the map but I could be wrong how did you make the road signs? I assume Blender? Yes I model them in blender and texture them with paint.net how did you make the working gates and dynamic message signs? Multiple models with lua triggers involved did you use the Road Architect tool to make the roads? Yes, but its an extremely annoying tool at times and I can understand why people do not like it
Dude i cannot stress to you how much I've been wanting a map like this in beamng. It almost like you could read my mind and made a map just specially for what I craved for in beamng.
Any chance you could add a fictional fast food chain called Chicken Munch in place of one of the real-life brands? It's used in Bob Blunderton's maps such as Roane County.
Possibly, If he has no issue with it --- Post updated --- Yeah its something not many have made due to game limitations and the headache it can be
yeah it is a daunting task, and I do recall there being a thread on the forum where someone tried to recreate the stretch of interstate 44 from OKC to Tulsa which is about 106 miles in length from each other and it endured up being cancelled. It isn’t easy to make a map like this which is why I’m so impressed with this map you’re making. Hopefully the same doesn’t happen and you able to finish it without any issues. Looking forward to the progress to come.
